Last night I went out and started the car just to hear it run without lifter ticking...I replaced the warn out hydraulic lifters.The engine sounds very nice. Today I went out to run a couple of errands. The car would turn over, but not fire up. I checked the coil wire for spark, no spark. Is it likely the ignition starter switch is bad? The ignition is an MSD 6 and the coil is a MSD HCV coil. Almost brand new. If you have suggestions for what the problem might be please feel free. Thanks, Ken
I replaced the ignition starter switch this morning which came with a golf tee as a locater. Now the switch is properly aligned,as it was before, just new. The ignition was still not firing then I swapped the coil out with an old one I had. The car started. The New HVCII msd coil was bad. I took it to Summit Racing and they replaced it. I installed it and the car started with a smooth idle. Now for the next problem. Ken
Ken, I think the HVC coil is only supposed to be used with HVC ignition systems. Not sure if you are running a standard MSD 6AL or what. Maybe worth checking:
The Blaster HVCII p/n msd-8253 coil is for the MSD 6 series box. I would like to know what the difference a MSD Digital ignition verse a standard MSD 6 ignition system would be. Thanks, Ken
Ok, that's cool. I did not know about the compatibility of the HVCII. I did not want you to hurt any of your electronics. Not sure the actual differences between the new digital series and older versions, sorry. Digital is kind of a buzz word. Perhaps the sensing, triggering and signal systems of the new stuff is digital, vice analog. In general, this means more precision, less power consumption, and better filtering.
I have found this ignition really helps a 250 I-6 start up even hot. Before I installed this ignition, the engine was very hard to start after driving it, shutting it off say to fill it up with gas, then restart it. Now it starts right up.. Ken
