A little info on the tranny. Bought from craiglist used, "should have worked" they said. Bolted it up to my freshly rebuilt 302 and it didnt work, stayed in first gear the whole time around the block then started slipping and would not move. I could turn it off and back on and it would go again but only in first. I was told on here it could be crap getting stuck in the filter clogging it and when turning it back off it would fall to the bottom and work again. I left it at that and thought to have it rebuilt, but getting married in a couple of weeks so im tight on cash. Anyway to what I was getting at, I turn the car on ever week to let it run and just happened to check the tranny fluid at idle and warmed up. It shows nothing in there, I put 6 quarts in the convertor and 4 in the pan when I first installed it, there is no leaks, where did it go? Im replacing the filter, modulator and installing a new pan today. Could it be possible the tranny has worked the whole time just a combination of crap in the filter and low tranny fluid keeping it in first? Please let me know your thoughts on this the tranny is from a 66 mustang 289.

if you poured 6 quarts in the converter how did you keep it in while installing it in the trans? 10 or 11 quarts should have filled it to the full mark.

Well I installed the new filter, pan and modulator. Put the back end on jack stands and put it in every gear and let it run for a bit in each gear. I was able to get it up to 65 mph and that was all it would go. Looks like I will have it rebuilt. Was going to try and adjust the modulator but I doubt that will help any.
