At first i had to lift up on my shifter so it would conect to the switch at the base of the collum then i adjusted it so i wouldent have to but it would slip back and i would have to hold up the shifter agin but a few weeks ago something broke or shorted out and now i can crank my car in any gear. any ideas where i can get a new switch???

The parts store will not list a (neutral) switch for a column-shift '70 Maverick, because they do not use one. It has a mechanical link in the steering column that prevents the key from turning at all, rather than an electrical switch that breaks the circuit. You will have to find out whata broke or cam unhooked inside the column. There is a switch that looks like a neutral switch, but it is only a back-up light switch.
