Since St.Thomas Assembly Plant is going to be closed in the next few weeks, I wanted to get out there and take some pictures of my car there, since it was the birthplace of many Mavericks for almost 8 years. My car wasn't built there, but I do have one that was. I wished I would have remembered my tripod, I did a big burnout, as a tribute to all the Mavericks that were built there.
Thanks for posting these Dave. What a shame. Your car looks fantastic. Can't wait to see it in person.
Nope, if you have an "X" in your vin, this is where it was built. St.Thomas was the pilot plant for Maverick, I'll have to look up the date Maverick production started.
My Sprint was assrmbled there. I should get up there and take a few pics too, before the weather goes down hill.
im thinking that a good way to give back to the folks that work there would be ......pull up as close as you can to the main entrance and blow the meats right off the damn wheels, just meltem down so far that theres not even enough rubber left for honda to recycle for bumpers. just a thought whitey
Great idea, nice shots Dave. I hope the plant is still standing when my Mav's tires finally hit the pavement. Would like to take some similar pics with my car. Also a St. Thomas baby. Today is the first day of my last year of teaching. Starting July 1st, next year, the Mav becomes my priority. Hopefully be on the road for the 2013 season.
Better plan a trip to the MCCI 19th Annual Roundup Nationals. The event will be back in the Dearborn, Michigan area next July 25-29, 2012. It will probably be the closest Roundup to you ever.
Thanks for posting the picture's. I have often wondered what that plant is like. My first Maverick Grabber was built there in June '74. I am retired from Wayne MI assembly plant with 30 years. When I ordered my car I thought it would be built in Wayne but it was not. Although I sold that car in 1988 is still around today. They did a excellent job, quality at it bests! I hate to see any plant close! Hopefully Ford knows better then we do. I believe Ford of Canada is doing very well. Congrats! Its hard work believe me I know!
I am guessing that is where my Dad's Pickup Trucks were built. He had a 1978 F150, an early 90's F150 and a F350 Dually that were all built in Canada. He just bought a new 2011 F350 Super Duty King Ranch but I haven't checked to see if that one was assembled in Canada yet.
I wonder if they will auction off the contents of the factory? There might be some cool collectable stuff from the 70's there. (pics and paperwork).
