72 maverick sprint. Not sure that the motor is the original. seems the carb is not original but i havent looked into it. Any who I can turn on the air or heat but only the fan/blower is working. the air is not hot or cool. Just wondering if anyone could tell me what to start with in getting it setup. Its getting cold here in michigan and heat would be nice!

Are both heater hoses getting hot, if not pull them and check for blockage, if they are coolant is going through, check and see if the heater control cable is working, meaning is it moving anything on the heater box under the dash.

First off: Does your car have factory AC?

where are the heater hoses located? back left side of the engine bay? And I believe my car came with factory ac. seems to have the option. How would I find out?

Do you have a vent in the middle of your dash? That's factory a/c if you do.

A factory a/c car will have a vent to right of the ashtray.

Do you have defroster vents? there are two of them, on top of the dash, one in front of you as you're sitting at the wheel, the other is in front of a passanger if you had one. When the fan runs, and you have selector to defrost, does any air come out of those vents, when you have it to heat, does any air come out on each side of the trans tunnel?

then start the engine, let it warm up to operating temp, find the heater hoses, they are on the right side of the engine compartment when you are standing behind the car, in other words they are on the passangers side. one hose comes from the water pump, the other most times comes from the head, they run along the inerfender, and go through the firewall and are connected to the heater core, after the engine is warned up, feel the hoses and see if BOTH of them are hot. if they are you've got problems in the heater control, or a plugged air intake to the heater box.

the hoses connect by the front of the engine right behind the fan? I believe so since they both go to the heater box. both were warm. not sure how long I should have let it warm up or if one should be hot and the other warm enough to hold?

Most of these cars (maybe all) use vacuum to move the blend doors. You might check and make sure the vacuum hoses are connected.
