Alright, I dont have a clue if this would work, but since i thought of it i hope someone else has too. Have any of you seen or have a link to a twin I beam swap to a Maverick? I have had this bug in my ear about building a Prerunner out of a car my entire life. Thought about a Camaro when i was younger but the look of the Maverick caught my attention. I think it would be a good time killing, probably money burning project.

    Any ideas would rock. thanks

I have seen 69-70 mustangs with the solid axles, mostly for drag racing. Im sure it could be done ,you might have to use coil springs or leaf springs. You could use composit leafs. Also i would look at lighter I beams but keep the strength.:drive:

The unit body construction would not hold up without a lot of reinforcement. Get a ranger chassis and mount the body to it.

What do you mean you want to build a prerunner out of a car? Isn't a prerunner an older Toyota truck? If you are talking about building a 4x4 Maverick The easies way would be to put a Maverick body on a late 60's Bronco Chasis, or do like the guy on here did. He had one that was sitting on a Jeep Chasis.

Where are the smarty pant guys when you need them? Every other time someone (usually me) shoots down the idea of a solid axle Mav, they always post a picture of one from the 70's....

I never thought of the Twin I-Beam as one of Ford's "Better Ideas".

To go one step beyond the Ranger frame idea, a late 90s Explorer frame might be a good start.

You can get them with a 5.0 V8 (4 door only) and 4 wheel drive (might be AWD ... not sure). A 2 door frame might require less shortening, but no V8s in them from the factory... easy swap though. The 98-on SOHC 4.0 V6s aren't bad either.

Junkyards are full of Explorers right now.

Would I ever do this? ... only after finishing my Comet, building a 2 seat roadster Mav, and then a Mav wagon .... ;)

I would stick with the straight front axle and leaf springs for the Gasser look (y)

Twin I-Beams would be a bear to work with - remember your frame rails are only spot welded sheet metal pieces - you would be asking a lot of them to pivot those I-Beams on :)

Thanks eveyone. I have some new things to think about. It didnt click in my head that the thing would tear itself apart. Although a twelve point cage with the race kit was goin to be first on the list. I will look into the frame swap but i have yet to see one that sits the way i would like it to. The closest thing i could do to give an idea of what i wanted to do, but not as drastic, would be the trophy truck 67 camaro i found in Ensenada, Mexico. Thanks again

a prerunner is any truck that runs an off road course to let the driver get the lay of the course before a race toyota had a truck called a forerunner I believe by the just an cars plus offroad truck parts just look strange to me unless it is made for rallying or somethign like that but cars on truck chassis look strange.. though I do appreciate the engineering and work it woudl take to do it.. right that is..

The twin I beam set-up in the ford trucks were used for years, But Not because it was a good design. It is harder to steer, rides rough, and is brutal on tires.
