If you put a plug in it instead of a petcock, can't you drain it by unscrewing the plug? Do you have to pull the lower hose off???? My new 3 row is sitting on my workbench and I'm dying to see if it fits. I got it 2 weeks ago, but I also have a 20 month old little girl, so you know how that goes.
I got my radiator yesterday, and worked all day installing it today. I rigged the fan shroud just to get the car running, tomorrow I'll make 4 shroud brackets and add the shroud. My setup is a 2 row American Eagle radiator. The radiator has 2 rows of 1" tubes in it, and I would believe it. The radiator is 2 1/2" thick, that measurement is from the mounting brackets to the shroud mounting brackets. I had to cut bottom radiator mounting bracket, above the head light wire harness and shorten the fasteners in the same bracket. My engine is a 250 Inline Six, with a clutch fan. After a couple radiator install and removal's I finally got the radiator, shroud and clutch fan installed, there is about 1/2" room between the clutch fan face. I idled the car for 20 maybe 25 minutes and then drained the water out to make sure I got all the old coolant. To my surprise, when I pulled the clamp off the lower hose to drain the water out of the radiator, the water was luke warm. All the hoses were hot to touch. Tomorrow, I'll get it done and take her for a drive. Ken
Radiator came in six days but it wasn't the right size. The champion website description for ec339 is 22x22 1/4 but the one sent is 22x25.I'll call Monday and see how customer service is.
I just got a aftermarket aluminum radiator and am having trouble finding rad. cap that works properly they all seem to be too short? I have tried 2 different ones, both parts listed for a maverick, is there a special one i should order?
I purchased it through our radiator supplier at the shop. I will call them tomorrow and see what they suggest. Tried a third cap from a mach1 and still no luck.
Update on my problem.Part number was one digit off, called and correct one came five days later-good customer service.
Finally found time to install the new radiator today. It fits good (whew!). :bananaman I was a little nervous that the hood would hit the radiator cap. It sits much higher than my old radiator even with it mounted as low as it will go. The petcock clears the crossmember too. I only wish the overflow fitting pointed toward the passenger side and not the driver side because my aluminum overflow tank is on that side. All I need to do is find some new hoses and thermostat. The thermostat may take some time finding because it fits inside the upper radiator hose. Might as well change it while I'm changing hoses. Also, need to modify the electric fan bracket because it rubs on the core. Can't wait to finish the install and take her for a spin.
