Come this winter (few months from now) I was going to put the "77" in the back garage and go over her, rebuild the 250 IL, beef it up a little, headers, cam - carb. She is in great shape as I said before and wanted to keep her original. Then I started to search out other Mavs on line and found that some of these "mods" look great. One that stood out was the different type of tail lights which can be mounted on these Mavericks. Everything from cool Courger lights to Mustand and others. Now what? Keep the "77" original / stock......modify the In line and do the 302 swap? Custom her out out with some hood scoop work , tail lights and maybe other stuff. Just don't know at this point...sugesstions?
Well, what probably will happen is that I will keep the "77" original and end up buying another Maverick that needs work and custom that one out....I guess you always need a few vehicles to play with.
You can always bolt on parts that can be swapped back out for the original ones later. Like Bobcat taillights, you don't have to drill any holes or cut anything to install them. wheels, engine dress up parts...etc heck they even have bolt in roll cages.
I seen the post reference to Bobcat taillights and then went on line and seen a pair on Ebay for sale.......just looking at them on line and not going out to look at the original Mav taillights they appear "longer", am I correct on this, simply longer than originals? I like the bolt on changes. That way if "original" is then wanted, simply bolt off and remove. Who knows what will happen over the winter. Going to our last of the season "Swap Meet" this weekend (Sept. 16-18th), should be a good one and maybe I will find some good "bolt on" - "upgrade" parts for the Mav. Thanks for the replies.
Yup, pretty much like if someone got two pairs of maverick lights and put them together. One of them is a reflector though, so its flat. All there is that is "extra" is one more bolt. But instead of drilling an extra hole I just cut off that bolt. So they bolt in without any cutting of the body. Also there's still enough pressure that water doesn't seep in (I'll get you a picture of how they install once my batteries charge) I love mine:
I will X3 this. If you like it, just DO IT! It isn't like this is a 69 charger or a split-window vette...nothing short of wrapping it around a telephone pole will decrease it's "value".
Come on Now! It's a "77" Maverick.......although not your 69 Charger or Split Window Vette.....it is one great car....gaining everyday in collectibility and value....don't under estimate these little one time "Grocery Getters". They are become more and more a collectors sought after vehicle.
Wow! After reading some of the replies and doing some "websurfing" looks like "If they will fit, install them" when it comes to custom Maverick tailligts. I seen Courgar, Mustang, Bobcat...and one who was considering Camaro taillight inserts. Last big swap meet coming up this weekend, looks like whatever good buy I can find (taillights) pick them up bring them home and see if they fit. Probably should take some measurements with me and carry them around....thanks for the comments.
I agree - I liked the Bobcat tail light sway so I did it - then I liked the 67 Caprice tail light swap even better so I undid the Bobcat and did the Caprice It's your car - do whatever you like
Here's the picture, as you can see no cutting or drilling was required My favorite lights are the Tbird/cougar/shelby lights. But they run for a couple hundred, then the tail panel installation requires several hundreds more.
