I replaced my 2bbl's accelerator pump and now it hesitates as soon as I press the gas quickly at all. The linkage is set at it's lowest hole so the least amount of fuel pumpage occurs (as it had been set before). It seems like it runs really rich after I hit the gas, then it recovers and revs up fine. But it will stall if I'm not really careful with the throttle. I also have what seems like an unfindable vacuum leak, and I was thinking and wondering if a faulty PCV valve could be the problem.
Did you remove all of the slack in the accellerartor pump linkage ? Vacuum leaks are easy to find. JUst start the motor, and then pray carb cleaner all around the intake manifold and carb till you hear the engine pitch change when the carb cleaner is sucked into the leak.
The accelerator pump and diaphragm is installed correctly. There's no slack in the linkage, what I'm saying is it seems to pump TOO MUCH fuel into the carb.
when you look down in the carb and move the throttle does gas squirt from the two nozzels like it should, or does it come from some place else, what was it doing before you replaced the pump, and did you have the rest of the carb apart?
It's the stock Motorcraft 2100. Before it ran fine (besides the vacuum leak which I believe I fixed today) but leaked gas onto the intake manifold after lifting off the throttle, which I saw as a safety issue. I'll have to look at the carb when it isn't raining and dark, I bought a rebuild kit today too.
