Hows it going. got into racing with my 07 mustang, was afraid i'd blow it up while paying it off, so i wanted to build a dedicated race car. my dad used to have a grabber that he always talked about, so when i saw a maverick down at the swap meet i knew i had to have it. i'm going to start with pictures from when i first picked up the car, to most recent pictures. within first few months of purchasing the car.
everytime i got home from work i would see the car sitting in the driveway with that bright red oxide primer, i paint cars for a living, but didn't want to paint this nice until its quicker and running good. so i ended up spray bombing it flat black for a temp fix. right before hand i had acquired the earlier bumper brackets for the rear, and the small front bumper and brackets for the front. since this picture i have drilled the correct mounting holes for the bumper, after patching the one framerail. i cannot find any pictures so i will have to take some tomorrow, but i had converted the interior to black, rewrapped the cracked up dashpad, and put those street/race style seats in. which are eventually getting swapped out for aluminum kirkeys.
it ran when i got it, but the guy i got it from just kinda tossed together parts he had laying around i guess, because it wasn't running good. haha. was still points ignition when i bought it, was way rich, and just a dog. i converted to electronic ignition, and slightly messed with the carbs tuning, and ran 14.5 at 98 mph. bogging down. i had forgot to mention in the first post that i have had this car for about a year now, just realized i haven't posted on here yet. haha.
looking really good flat black. reminds me allot of my car http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=54351
went to electronic ignition all msd distributor coil and box, hid the box inside the car to clean up underhood also got a good tax return this past year, so i had bought something i thought would help out the motor that is in the car is a roller motor, traced back a few numbers and it appears to be out of an 80s ford pick up. the heads that were on it were E6s i believe they were, and from what i had researched that they don't even make good paper weights. haha. ended up picking up a predator carb at the sept swap meet, because my older brother had one on his old street car and he loved it. the carb made the car run like a raped ape. took it apart to clean it out and check everything out, and my dad recommended that i rebuild it. its an early predator, and couldn't find a rebuild kit for the 5000 anywhere. being young i'm intimidated by carbs, by the time i was born everything was pretty much fuel injected at that point. lol. but just recently i had rebuilt the holley that came on the car, 750 dp 4150. it still needs some tuning but its running alot better, i think i'm going to swap out the powervalve next for a different size, see how that makes it run. heres the most recent picture of the motor. i moved the battery to the trunk, unfortunately i dont have any pictures of that. and all my pictures the cars pretty much a mess. most recent picture of it, from right after tuning the carb and the first test drive. i've always loved these drag wheels, and with this car i'm trying to do things different, always loved the bronze and i figure whatever color i paint i'll make sure it looks good and it works. lol. the back wheels came with 30x9.5s, too big a tire to fit in the stock wheel opening. i had 28x10.5 slicks in my basement that i picked up a few years ago, and they fit right on it, should be able to get pictures this weekend. needed a slight spacer in the rear, but i put 3 inch studs on when i redid the rear end with 4.10s and a mini spool, so it should have more then enough thread engaugement. miight i also add i picked up a 10 pt s&w rollcage same time my brother picked one up for his car, that will be welding in this winter. along with the turbo build up on the car?
i went full msd ignition [coil, distributor, box], and hid the box inside the car for to keep any wiring i can out of the engine bay. had a pretty good tax return, so i picked up a set of AFR 185s. I picked up a old predator carb at the swap meet, car ran great for a while and all of a sudden would do nothing but dump fuel, no matter how i tuned it. so i had to give in. being young and being born in the time of efi, i was intimidated by carbs. my dads a mechanic for 35+ years now, he could do them in his sleep, but i know hes to the point where he works on cars all day, he doesn't want to come home and work on mine haha. so this car i've tried to do everything myself. so i dove in most recently, and rebuilt the holley. looking at the part numbers i have a 750 dp 4150 on there. from what i've read ultimately i would want around a 500 cfm carb on here, but this one will just require a little bit extra tuning. so i rebuilt it, and got a full jet kit from holley. and learned how to tune it myself. its still a little rich, but i want to swap out the powervalve instead of jetting it again. i relocated the battery to the trunk also, with a cut off switch, but i do not have any pictures of that currently. when i redid the 8" rear end with 4.10s and a mini spool, i added 3 inch studs to the axles. might i add, i like the 8/9" design much better then the 7.5 or 8.8 they currently use, having done gears in my old 94 mustang gt.
most recent picture of the car, after redoing the carb and going for the first test drive. i've always loved how these drag wheels look, and i love driving around on bigs and littles, so currently i have 3 sets of drag wheels at my house for my cars. haha. i found them for a price i couldnt refuse, so i had bought them. the rears came with a 30x9.5 tire, which was way too big for what i need, and way too big for the stock wheel well. i had bought a set of 28x10.5s that fit perfect. the rims need a slight spacer which i just got in so i will be putting the wheels on and setting the car on the ground with them this weekend. i also have picked up a 10pt roll bar from s&w same time my brother picked his up for his car. his is already in his car since his is already in need of one .[mid 10 sec 94 mustang] his fit great, little bit of modification but really worked out nice. i will be putting mine in this winter time, at the same time i'm going with a blowthrough turbo set up. after riding in a few of my buddies turbo cars, [little 4 banger imports] i just love the sound and feel of a turbo charger. i think a turbo v8 should sound amazing and make really good power. its not really a street car, just have plates on it until i can afford a trailer to tow it to the track. but its nice cruising around in it for now.
hey i'm from hamilton/trenton area. central jersey. i don't think i've ever been that far north in jersey.
just read that thread, that sucks about the girl rear ending your car, it was gorgeous. i wish i had a grabber hood, but then again if i did i'd feel horrible about cutting it up for clearancing for the old carb i was using. your car was gorgeous though.
i had put a few more pictures up but its saying that a moderator has to approve the posts first. so i guess its the waiting game now. haha.
i'm inbetween several colors at the moment, i'm inbetween the newer dark highland green metallic that come on the bullitts, possibly a dark charcoal metallic similar to dark shadow gray, the newer plum crazy purple with the metallic in it, or white. thinking any of those would look good with these wheels i picked up. no flashy designs or anything, just a nice slick paint job. i told myself i would paint it nice after i got it to run at least 12s, i'm hoping it should be damn close now. think i need to upgrade the tq converter.
i've heard alot about island, always wanted to go there, i started drag racing at atco and englishtown with my mustang that i bought when i graduated high school, in fear of blowing it up i picked this car up. i mainly run at atco, but where i live its pretty much central to atco and englishtown. just atcos much cheaper to run at. at least the nights i go. got so addicted to racing i picked up bigs and littles for my 07.
