I have rubbber valve cover gaskets. Very good.
If you plan to be inside the bottom of your engine a lot, go for it.
If you're like me, never again (hopefully), save the money.

If you use the rubber gasket you should also use a set of pan rail stiffeners
If you are having leak problems you should make sure the pan rails are flat and not distorted at the bolt holes.

Alright guys the decision is final, i ordered the rubber gasket and decided to hold my breath hoping not to drown. I just hate them dang cork timing chain gaskets

When i came down to 25 dollars for an oil pan and timing chain cover gasket, i decided to get the rubber one at 42, an extra 17 bucks to know that theirs a 90 % chance it wont leak again.

I've never had an issue with cork, then again, I don't tighten the hell out of things.

The rubber will work well, but I, like Dave, haven't had a problem with cork. Use an inch lbs torque wrench and torque the pan bolts to spec. :yup:

FYI: the pan rail stiffeners can be found easily and super cheap in junkyards on mid-late 80's 302's. The 302 I pulled out of an '89 Grand Marquis had them on it.

Also on the 90's cars and trucks. And don't forget the bolts to go with em. They're longer.

get a one piece silicone gasket. I have these on 5 of my cars 3 of which are 5.0's and there is not so much as a trace of oil around the pan.
