Pretty awesome. Really makes me want to redo mine and get rid of the racing seats. Nice pictures as usual.

Thanks again everyone for all the compliments. I had alot of help from veteran members on here, while learning about how to restore these over the last year-and-a-half.

These are Factory Seats from a 1971 Ford Maverick/Grabber, reupholstered with the original Factory "Black" Comfortweave inserts, in the "Diamond" knitted shape pattern, that was a single year only style, that came on the 1971 Ford Mavericks/Comets. I have a picture in my project thread, of the Detroit Body book page, that shows all the Factory fabric patterns for the Mavericks and Mustangs of that year, as well as other vehicle models.

They feel very comfortable compared to the old covers. I was impressed at how well everthing was sewn and crafted on the inside, let alone the outside. I reused the original Factory Foam cushions because they were in great shape.

I also completely restored the seat tracks, and metal and plastic hardware. The plastic seat-back covers are Factory originals, that have been soaked, cleaned, and rubbed with Lexol Leather Conditioner. The plastic seat hinges covers are brand new reproductions, from Daniel Carpenter. The hinge cover screws were painted black with Eastwood self etching primer. The seatback emblem buttons are Factory original ones, that have been rechromed by upholsterer Fred Carello. I didn't picture the remaining Factory seat track spacers, that I restored, in these photos, but they're in my project thread. I also have brand new attaching nuts, for when I install the seats in my Maverick's floorpan.

Great job Roger! I wish I had my gry cloth fabric carried all the way to the frt of the seat as yours. The fabric is much more comfortable in hot wx. I'm glad I did'nt recover the entire seat w/ vinyl.

U got ur seatbacks to fit better than mine. Did u have to add any filler under the covers? I think if I had added some filler I wud've got the perfect fit. I saw the guys on Musclecar TV do some Camaro seats and added filler - that was after I had finished mine. :biglaugh:
My seat bottoms fit perfect. My foam was in pretty gud shape, had to add a patch of foam on one of the seat bottoms. Overall, I am satisfied w/ the results.

    BTW: Great project thread...

Thank you Everett! and thank you for your encouragement and personal emails during this process. You did an awesome job on yours. :)

I did not have any added filler under the covers. I was surprised at how tight these were going on. They were a bear pulling/putting on, but I still didn't use plastic bags to help slide them on....just kept working them. They certainly made me learn multiple ways to insert a hog ring into the special pliers, with ONE hand....because you're using the other free hand to hold the stretched cover!

I used plastic on the seatbacks "the plastic they were shipped in". I did'nt use it on the bottoms -as I recall. I bought another set of hog-ring pliers w/ better padded grips and 90deg head. The first set of pliers were hurting my hands, plus I needed more rings.

The most challenging thing to me until I got the hang of it, was installing the wire in the seatbacks that the fits in the foam and holds the rings. I cut a slot in the top of the wire retaining cover and slip the wire in frm the top, down one side until the other end was at the top and did it the same way.
    How did u do it?

Good question. On my seatbacks, they had the larger, foam channel retainers wires, that had hooks bent in the top end, that had to be hooked into a wire loop, that was in the foam channels, up near the seat emblem button. My wire-retaining fabric cover channels, were already open, on both ends of the cloth channel.

This was fairly tricky, and I had to hold pressure on the bottom end of the retaining wires, while hooking the opposite side, and swinging the inside-out cover, down over the foam cushion, for hog-ringing.

I think the hooking fastener on the top ends of the wire retainers, in the seat-backs, was to help pull, and hold the seat-back cover, to the inner-sloping contour of the seatback tops.

    Those look great.:thumbs2:

I'll be doing my front buckets very soon now .... :bananaman

I already did my back seat, and I think you will find it easy compared to what you have already been through with the fronts.

Thank you fellas !! All of you!

I appreciate the compliments. I did the best I could, and was very happy with the first upholstery project I have ever tackled. The list is long, of those that helped me in one way or another, with info, parts, and encouragement.

Can't wait to have time and money to tackle more projects! :)

Yeah Gene...I've certainly got alot of work ahead of me before I can put them in the car.

It's one thing to restore these seats...but it doesn't come close to restoring a whole Maverick or Comet like so many have done beautifully on here.

I can't wait to see them in the car too! I respect the fact that Ford did a beautiful job of designing these seats, and I'm glad they included them in the Mavericks and Comets.
