I did this about a year ago. I had to remove the master cylinder and the shock tower brace and unbolt the steering column from the inside. I had no idea what I was doing but I was determined to get it done. Shop labor rates aren't what they was in 1974... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=71561
thx for the reply..however im not familiar with rock auto..refresh my memory please.,im having a senior moment.
Just curious, why are we replacing the rag joint? Is it tore up or otherwise no good anymore? The only time I have ever seen or heared of replacing these is in the old Ford Trucks when the cab mounts would rot away and the weight of the cab would rest on the steering column those rag joints would turn into ripped up rags and have to be replaced. I would bet that if there is something wrong with the rag joint in your steering then you have a bigger issue that caused it especially in a car as light as a Maverick
you can buy just the rubber piece from advance auto in the help section for eight bucks instead of replacing the whole joint, just unbolt the bolts and slide the old one in ,you may have to loosen the steering column and pry it back an inch or so,replacing the rubber is cheaper and easier ,thats what usually wears out,the whole joint sells for around 35.00 dollars and its a little harder to change than just the rubber
ive told this story before.does anyone have any horror stories of their rag joint breaking in half while they were driving?
