Grand father gave me a 1972 Chevy El`Camino SS with a 350 V8 High performance beast!!

Currently working on it now. So far 1 good 6 hour day on it. It hasn't ran in over 7+ years. Recently full off frame restoration then parked in a NON heated garage (aarggh).

Ive pulled the gas tank, removed and cleaned tank, wire brushed and re-painted with undercoating. Blew out the lines with air, rebuilt carb, pulled spark plugs and cleaned them/inspected. Some sea-foam and all back together. Battery is still solid, but need to rewire the distributor due to someone going in there with a damn knife and cutting the 3 main wires so I get to figure it out >.< which is the major headache. Been looking up schematics or instructions.

Its a HEI w/ coil combo (Accel) It is the after market high performance setup.

Sadly I know how to do a lot of things on FORDS but theses CHEVYS are similar but not? Basic fundamentals but feels totally different.

Also took out the #1 of 12 factory built 1982 MINI MARK out for the last drive of the year before I put it inside the garage and tarped with fuel stabilizer. Was a blast driving like always, but holy god was it cold. Freeway for 30 minutes my hands where numb lol.

Heres some pictures of both cars.

Here is a information site about the mini mark. Shows more pictures http://www.murrayco.com/car_collection/bremen_mini-mark_1982.html

Will NOT sell it, I'd sell maverick over this any day without a second thought. Have wayyyyyyy to many memories of us together with this car. Ive helped him do a ton of work on this when I was a knee high sh!t head kid.

I am leaving for the military soon, and mentioned that too him (retired viet vet) and he threw me the keys and said get her running. So exactly what I am doing. Getting it drivable and running, then going to park it for winter. Once I get back I will drive her.

Leave for 4-5 months then will come back, and almost have a 100% chance I will go to Kuwait/Iraq for a year :/

Very good memories, and its a pleasure to get this :D

anyways headed up to the lake house to replace all the fluids, and get her running today :)

Nice El Camino! 71-72 were the best looking years IMHO. I had a 69, never did get it going, traded it for something a long time ago.

My Father in law had a VW based kit car like that, his was a replica of a 52 MG. Bad thing was it had no top, so it was a sunny day car only, and the little 40 hp wasn't big enough for it. It really needed a 65 hp dual port as heavy as it was....

I wouldn't go so far as to say "Factory Built" as the Bremen Sports Equipment Company was not an Auto Manufacturer rather a turn key kit car company much the same as my company is. Heritage Auto Works is the mother company of the Stage II replica SC 427's and builds turn key kit cars but not as a factory car but a hand built kit in a shop. Bremen built low #'s of about every car they built and although the Mini Mark is a nice looking car it is no wonder they didn't build very many when you see the Maxi Taxi.

Anyways, Nice looking cars and thanks for your service.

I am ignorant on the car, the information I was told by my grandfather I forwarded it to here :), thank you for the information correction -- Ill reply the info to the grandfather.

Yesterday I got the oil, tranny, and rear differential fluid replaced. As well as the filters. Also detailed the engine bay/engine as well as the underside (all chrome - easy to clean :) ).

Have a bit of a wiring issue due to my uncle (has physic issues) started cutting wires that I didn't know about until I went underneath the dash. Going to take some wires that I had for the maverick and donate some this morning.

Got the car to crank, but keeps popping the 30 amp glass fuse for the ignition so im going to have to figure that out. Also the HEI distributor wiring is all cut without its clips so its a mind freak trying to figure it out. Yes its only 5 wires, but trying to figure out which is which can be nerve racking due to the fact I don't want to ground out the coil.

Also tore out the interior carpet, pad, and sound deadening due to a mold issue. Underside is great shape (been completely restored in the past) but had some surface rust. Wire brushed passenger side and painted it with anti rust paint. Going to order up some dynomat and carpet kit most likely today to finish the interior.

Put the "truck bed" leather top on man that was a task. 7 years of sitting has shrunk the leather so it took some elbow to get them to line up with the buttons but was done. Looks great.

Going to head up there in a few minutes to hopefully finish the wiring issue, complete driver side, replace a few gas tank hose clamps and put some premium gas in her.

Have to replace the glass fuel filter due to the dry rot that happened with the end cap seals. Sprayed gas all over the place when trying to crank it. So setup a temp hose bypass to attempt the crank. Unfortunately couldn't get spark - distributor related.

Plan on replacing HEI distributor today as well, but we'll see.

I have taken a bunch of pictures for personal, and forum reasons but its on the grandfathers digital camera so I will get those while I am up there.

Lastly I have to replace the vacuum lines again damage done by dry rot, and my uncle messing with stuff he didn't know about so going to make sure everything is grand before I get it started. Hopefully the transmission seals aren't to dry and cause an issue when running - worse case scenario my grandfather has a mechanic that owes him about a 1000$ in labor so he'll have him replace the seals.

Anyways off to the lake house. Have a good day everyone :)

    -Levi

The HEI is pretty simple, the three terminals closest to the cap are attached to the module in the distributor. You might be better off finding the proper lead for those wires. The two that will be closest to you when looking at the side of the cap will be the 12v lead and the tach trigger. If you look at the coil cover it should tell you which one is which. Wish I could be more help but all my GM wiring diagrams are too new to cover the older style HEI's.

Yeah, I got it figured out.

Replaced the condenser and plugged into the back closest to the cap then found a constant 12v lead from interior aftermarket guages to power the distributor. Turned the key and fired damn close to instantly. Pulled the wire apart to turn off the car, now I need to T tap into a ignition "on" 12v wire. Currently trying to find schematics but having a hell of a time trying to locate them...

Oh here are some pics :)

Got the it started yesterday. Replaced the distributor condenser, as well as battery leads and battery. Also picked up a interior toggle switch for the after market gauge cluster. Put the seats back in until I can get carpet and more anti rust paint.

During the fuss with the distributor I accidently pulled the coil leads a little to hard when I was taking it off and busted it. I tried to re-solder the wire but it got pulled from the internal part. 65$ part that needs replaced now. Will buy new one monday and put in.

Now need to find a 12v ignition "ON" wire to wire into the distributor so I can shut car off with key instead of pulling two wires apart. (good anti theft though haha)

Going up sunday to wash her, and put a good heavy coat of wax. Clean up the underside and shine up them tires & rims :)
