What ever was in the tank was there when I bought the car. The dealer had replaced the carb and fuel pump to get it running so when I started having problems I assumed it was a bad sock. I blew that out with air and it ran fine for a short time - then I got a new tank for it but never was able to get it put in. I am glad it is fixed and running! Paul
The funny thing is that the car had a locking gas cap in the back seat - I think it is still there. It was probably removed by the dealer thinking that it was not venting properly. Mike, I think you will find the key for it on your collection of keys. I think sombody got mad at the previous owner and had access to the tank... I am glad that Mike found the problem and got it fixed. It is going to be a fine car for his wife (right).
That and Ping Pong Balls is an old joke people would pull on other people before the days of unleaded fuel filler necks with smaller openings and anti-siphoning gas tanks. I didn't / still don't find the humor in it.:16suspect -Scott H.
I am told that I put a handful of rocks in the gas tank of one of my parents old Falcons. Dad had a fit with the car because it would drive fine then cut off like it was starving for fuel once it would come to a stop it would normally start back up. Had the problem for awhile, finally sold the car cause he couldn't figure out the problem and then "Grandpa" told Dad that he had caught me putting rocks in the tank. I am sure I probably got a whoopin for it even though the car was gone. Hahaha I have heared about people doing the tampon in the tank to get even with someone but that is just wrong in so many ways. Trying to figure something like that out would be enough to drive a preacher to drink. Just an added note for any of you folks that do any camping in a trailer or RV of anykind that has a self contained toilet. Just an FYI tell the ladies not to put the feminine products in that tank either. They will leave a horrible odor if they swell up and get stuck in the tank when you think the tank is drained. They will dry out and the odor will go away and the first drop of water that hits them they will blow your RV right off it's wheels. Don't ask me how I know this
