Does amyone have a pic showing how they switched from a column shift to a floor shift using a cable set up. I am interested in where the cable was mounted and if you used the existing column shift shift arm that is already on the transmission or if you used an aftermarket universal shift arm. In addition, what is the best position to to start in to make your adjustments so that all the gears hit the indicator in the right position? This is a c4 on my 73 maverick and I am trying to use a 68-69 mustang floor shifter and a customized adjustable shift arm. I started with everything in neutral, all the gears hit. D, 1, 2 click in gear in about the right position, but there is a small amout of space before they hit the stops. N is dead on and reverse is real close also. P requires a little forward pressure and it locks in real tight. Hope this makes sense, I am kind of new to the transmission game. Would it be easier to use a cable setup or would some minor adjustments help me get the right radius?
I don't have any pictures but I know that some kits (floor shift) come with a lever that bolts to the existing one and allows you to run the cable from the rear of the transmission. Others have a long enough cable that it can be routed to work from the front of the transmission. Either way works well when you switch from column to floor shift. One note - you will need to cut the neutral safety switch wires from the exting column mounted switch and connect them to the shifter switch - same with the back-up lights if you want them to work.
