hi, i am going to document what i did to convert my 74 comet to a 5.0L from a 97 mercury mountaineer. i am using the 5.0L engine, 4r70w, eec-v, wiring harness, and accessories front the moutaineer. i started to run through the wiring and here is some of the drawings. parts used: 97 late year 5.0L block (rebuilt) Ford Part numbers: F4TE-6250-BA cam shaft * Advertised Duration: 256 / 266 * Duration at .050 in.: 186 / 197 * Gross valve lift: 0.422 / 0.448 * Lobe separation: 116° trickflow 170 cfm high port heads. trickflow 1.6 roller rockers (might change to 1.7 later) trickflow push rods. (don't know the length but they are right) arp bolts the mountaineer intake, maf, etc... mountaineer ecu and wiring harness. (no pats on 96 or 97) tweecer r/t 4r70w for the transmission.
are you going to program the computer? i believe that you at least have to disable the theft prevention system. if you are what are you using to program it with?
im looking forward to hearing about the process you went through. I bought a wrecked 96 explorer that im going to use the drivetrain from, but want to put a t5 behind it. Is your engien stock ? Any reason you choose tweeter Rt over Quarterhorse? im sure i'll have lots of questions for ya
engine is rebuilt, trickflow high port heads. roller rockers. later i might shave the heads and raise the compression, and probably upgrade the cam. but for now i want to just get it running. working through the wiring now.
I have Alldata and can create PDF files, so if you need any wiring diagrams or pinouts just send me a PM and I'll post what you need.
ecu box and wiring. well so far, this is what i have done for my ecu. i cut a hole in my cowl and fabricated a water tight box and the mounted it in the firewall. checked hood clearance and it worked great. i am wiring now. i have finished half of the wiring. i still have to remove the rear o2 sensor wiring out of the harness and then run the wires back to the transmission.
OH CRAP thanks for the info.. well i guess ill add it to the list of not being carb / epa compliant as well.
02 ecu pinouts here is the pinouts and locations of the o2 sensors. i will be removing the wiring from the ecu harness for the rear o2's, sense i will not be running rear o2 sensors.
It was just a joke. One of the rules for a car to be OBDII is for the OBD port to be in reach of the drivers seat.
today i cut apart the harness going to the transmission, removed the harness connector, removed the rear O2 sensor wiring, and ran and connected the transmission.
Sounds like your in the same boat as me! there was no room for the connector between the tunnel and 4r70w trans. Thats what i'm working on now and the wiring phase of my resto will be done.
