Hey! I have finally decided that i want to get some pertronix hookups in my car. Anyone have links to a item i should buy, or what type i should go with?
I drive a 1972 Maverick Grabber that is pretty much all stock under the hood.
    Thanks!

I got mine from ebay. Just make sure they are a reliable seller and make sure you match the part number up with the correct engine for your car. There are different ones for 6 cyl, and V8's.

Other than that just do a google search and read up on which Pertronix model best suites your needs and wallet. I know they have have at least 3 different ones, there is a standard that just replaces the point and makes it more reliable. There is a mid-range that replaces the points and I think gives you a rev-limiter and maybe some other small features and then there is a highend one that they claim is almost like having an MSD type ignition.

Do yourself a favor and look it up and do the research yourself instead of just asking someone else what they used. You will learn a lot more and the information will stick with you for future reference.

I have one of their basic conversions in my Comet. This is in a 351W with a cam that is a bit rowdy and a carb with no choke provisions. With points in the distributor, merely starting the car would take 2-3 tries in warm weather. Adding the Pertronix was a big help and I could start it first attempt. Cool weather (remember ... no choke) ... it went from almost impossible-to-start to a mild challenge. It made this much easier to live with as a daily driver.

If I were to make the conversion now, I would spring for the one that acts like an MSD. Several spark hits at lower RPMs in each combustion cycle would really clean up even a stock motor. I would bet you could jet it down and see tangible mileage gains.

Be aware, you will need to do a small bit of re-wiring. I am forgetting the specifics, but it is not bad.

Either way, one of these is really going to help starting and driveability ... you'll like it.

Points are at their best right when you install and set them. They only go downhill from there ....

Anyone have luck with duraspark I believe is the other one I've seen floating around. From what I've read it's more like MSD than pertronix is

the ford duraspark is good but you need either a msd box or duraspark box to make it work.

Is it worth the money, or would I be better off with pert? Hard to really research. I'm still at work
