Hey all, so I have a potentially stupid question to ask. I am towards the end of stripping the interior of my car and am trying to get the dash out. I have searched for all the threads on this subject and have taken out all the screws. What I am left with now is the wiring. How much do I need to disconnect to take the dash off? I've disconnected everything on the passenger side but am left with everything by the steering column. I started disconnecting all the fittings I can see, but what do I do about all the wires coming from the fuse box? To me it looks like they are connected to the dash? I stopped before I went to far and decided to see if I could get some guidance. Anyways any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Yep...bolt in the center. Loosen that and pull that part of the wiring harness into the cabin of the car. If you want to keep the wiring with the dash, you will also need to disconnect the rear wiring harness and the dome light wiring. These plugs are located behind the heater control levers (in that area). You will also need to pull out the door switches, unplug those wires, and then pull those wires up into the cabin. You will need to umplug everything around the bottom of the steering column. This would include the ignition switch, the turn signal switch, and the neutral safety switch. You will also need to unplug the brake switch. You will also need to unplug the wiper motor and the heater motor. You may also have some seat belt wires to unplug. Question: why are you pulling the dash?
Because I want to install a headliner actually since I already had the windshield out and the heater box out I figured why stop there. The dash needs to be repainted and I noticed that when I took the windshield out there was a pinched wire that was almost cut through jammed between the windshield and the dash. And besides I am having too much fun taking it apart and seeing how everything goes together.
I took mine out. Hopefuly you don't let me get mine in before you lol http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=57059&highlight=dash+project
Yeah....if you are going to paint it....definitely easier with it out of the car. I would be curious what wire got "pinched" at the factory. Can you post up a picture?
I missed that thread during my searches, but it looks like nice work. I have a goal in mind to get everything back together but it may be a bit ambitious. I'll take a picture tonight but if I remember right it was green/yellow stripe and it looked like it came from the headlight knobs. I was surprised to see it but I can't imagine that anyone ever took this dash out before I did.
Here is a picture I just took of the pinched wire. It is green with a yellow stripe. I didn't really try to follow it to see where it went.
I have pulled 20 to 30 dashes. I had never seen that. Somebody wasn't paying attention at the assembly plant that day. Thanks for posting.
