If you are getting water in the car you have cowl rust issues and it doesn't sound like any fun to fix.

its not really leaking... its dry all the way across... the water is only coming through that cowl hole with four bolts around it, that the vent hat fixture goes on. lol

The vent in the pic doesn't have a top. It open so air, or in your case water, can come through. Sounds like you have a bad cowl. The hat is inside the cowl

You are welcome....glad I could help.

Sounds like you need to do the water test.

You will need to put something over that hole....like the vent assembly...or you will have air rushing in that hole all the time. The vent assembly would have a flapper door on it to cut off the outside air.

I had to repair mine last year by removing the cowl top and using Mustang reproduction stuff - I had a few apparent holes rotted through, which initially helped me to make the decission to go into this repair. What I also found, after taking a wire wheel to the entire inside of the cowl, was the hidden pin holes at the bottom of corrosion areas. These are the ones that you will not "feel with your fingers".

If your vents are the only thing eaten up (once you get the top off). Head to your local lowes/home depot/ what have you...and go to where they carry stove pipes and get the right size.
Easy to cut, and weld around or in place of the old vent.

I don't know who came up with the word "Hats" I guess the same guy who came up with the name “Squirrel Cage”...I would had called the “Hats” a “Collar” and “Squirrel Cage” a “Hamster Wheel”. Ever see a squirrel running around inside one?

Rich; try this. Look at the water lines from the heater, and see if they are sealed to the firewall. I had that problem, with a newly fixed cowl, and it was the heater hose lines leaking, and running along the firewall and all the stuff in there, and dripping on the package tray. There are grommets to make the seal, or make your own. Take a look and see if they are good. Hope this helps you out!:)

Before and after Sand Blasting. I rust treated them, sealed them, Primed with weld through primmer and painted them with apliance epoxy to match the color Ill be painting the car. Its alot of work, but worth the piece of mind.:)

My Falcon didn't come with grommets from the factory and it has never cut a heater hose.
