I'm going to ditch my 71 for a much nicer body, I picked up a 72 Mav today and it's in much better shape than the 71. Between the rust in the floors, roof braces, trunk and front aprons, the destroyed by air shocks rear cross member and the structural damage from the accident it had been in I just don't see it being worth the time when I can get a better car. I posted this one a while back hoping some body would buy it so I wouldn't but you guys failed me so I brought it home!:Handshake So far there is only small amounts of rust in the floors that is easily fixed. The trunk and quarters are in great condition and the dash pad does not have a single crack in it. It had been sitting for a while so it doesn't run great but it drove up onto the trailer with ease. I'm going to go through my parts and sell off the extra bumpers and valances and such once I decide which I want for myself. I guess you've read enough, here are some pictures of it, I'll post some more soon.
Tough to give up on a project you already started but when you weigh the pros and cons and dollars and sense then I guess you already know the answer Hopefully we will see this one on the road sooner. Looking forward to seeing the progress made on this one
It is tough but I couldn't pass this one up. Seems like I kept finding more rust on the 71 when I'd look at it. Both doors have a fair amount that was well hidden by the last painter but the biggy was the rust in the roof structure. Short of replacing the roof or a bunch of small tedious patches I wasn't sure what to do there.
Make it a T-Roof! but as far as your new one here goes it looks as solid as they come, wish i could even find just another half decent one to do.
I'd do up the '72 in the colors of the '71. That way you wouldn't be TOTALLY abandoning it...just using it's best assets before sending it on. Looks like a real good start!
I will be using some of the stuff from my 71 like the bumpers, I never have like the bumper guards. Here are some more pictures, I'm looking froward to some warmer weather so the garage isn't so stinking cold. Very solid trunk floor. The low spots suffered some. Driver side is solid, just surface rust but the passenger side is in need of some new metal. Look at that crack free pad, I'm scared to death to touch it, it'll probably explode! Spoiler installed! Once it warms up I can roll it outside and start cleaning it some.
That's the plan, it won't be pretty but I want to get the 302 in it and drive it. It runs now but not very well and I'm not a 6 cylinder guy!
