Yep, it's me again. I do not having a working fuel gauge, nor do I have the instrument panel lights working in my '74 Maverick. All of the idiot lights work, the blinkers work, and the high beam indicator works. I have pulled the cluster, and the circuit board looks good and the harness itself looks good. When I do a check on the fuse panel with my test light, all of the fuses "work" EXCEPT the little 4 amp fuse that supposedly runs the inst panel lights. It doesn't light the test light on either end of the fuse.
What should I look at next? Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

I wud clean the contacts/all the conductor strips, replace all the bulbs. I found mine had quite-a-bit of buildup. Be real gentle w/ the unit. While u have it out it's a gud idea to "spray"paint the grn housing white, makes a big difference in the brightness in the cluster. Someone on the forum used some kind of chemical, can't recall who or what they used. Do a seach on gauge cluster repair.
As far as the gas gauge, I don't have any ideas on that - I have not had to deal w/ that one yet. Im sure someone here will offer some ideas on that issue.

Hey Mojo, all of the circuit board looks really clean, no buildup and the contacts are all nice and shiny and I interchanged the bulbs with some of the idiot lights that do work, and they all worked as well. The harness looks brand new and there is no sign of any creative wiring going on in there. I can't figure out why that fuse is getting no power. Hey Craig, the gas gauge moves not at all.

Rotate the headlight switch back an forth, and see if that makes a difference.

    Tried that DDB, no luck.
Is the no dash lights related to the fuel gauge not working, you guys think? Or are they 2 unrelated issues?
Again, I have no power to that particular fuse either.

From the schematic, the #3 fuse it is fed with the Yellow wire from the ignition switch. Do your Hazards work?

EDIT: Actually, I think the schematic and fuse panel ID are messed up. The fuse panel ID says that the #1 fuse feeds the hazards, not #3. The schematic shows fuse #5 for Illum.

Seems LT-BLUE RED comes from the headlight switch and feeds the Illum fuse (4 amp). I would check the LT-BLUE RED wire from the headlight switch for 12V+ with the park lights ON.

Hey guys, I have power to the little 4amp fuse again, cleaned all of the contacts on the circuit board, and I now have instrument lights! Every blessed one is working.
Now for the biggie, I really need a working gas gauge. Craig, you asked me if the gauge moved at all. I can now tell you that when I turn the key it moves a tiny bit, I'm talking half a millimeter, if that. And then back when I turn off the key. What can that mean?
    Thanks,

Disconnect the wire at the fuel sending unit at the tank and hook a jumper wire to it and attach jumper wire to a good ground, then turn your key on. if gauge now goes all the way to full then you will know everything works in the sys. to the sending unit and the sending unit is your problem!

I have two wires to the sending unit at the tank on my 73. Why the two instead of the one?

The second wire may be to turn on a low fuel light if there is one.
