Big difference between air/charge and fuel temps and engine temp in general. Cars run faster when its cool out with dense, cool, air. No brainer. We are talking about engine temp/thermostats not ambient temps. A street car runs better at normal operating temps. 160 is a bit too cold for my liking. Increased engine wear and fuel economy loss. 180-200 suits my needs with my engine. It runs right around 200 with a 195 stat even in dog days of august. Keep in mind this is my set up. If you get too warm though and start to detonate then your losing a lot of power. I wouldnt run 160 for a street car with a mild engine. No pros only cons. As with everything though it really depends on your set up,needs and tuning. Just too many variables. I would think 180 for your car.
OK...what time... Dave will be there tomorrow around 1:00...Terry, Jeff, Effie and I will meet him there... I'll be looking at...... T-stats...
This was fun...lol... Well I think some where in here the answer is go get a 180* t-stat.... Thanks guys always fun to read your responses :Handshake
Ill shoot you a text when I get the solid plan tommorow early I'm riding with a friend down ill holler
OK I changed out the t-stat 180* motorad fail safe $12.99 .. It was to late to run the car with headers and straight pipes so I'll test it this weekend...
LMAO!!! QUOTE=OLD GOOSE;838333]I also like having heating pads under my air gap manifold to help with the horsepower and I wrap my headers so the heat will stay in my engine I also run a griffin 3 row radiator because i like very hot engines it helps horsepower and I run a high volume water pump so my engine runs as hot as possible and i run a spacer block under my carb because i love hot fuel my car does too because everyone knows heat makes horsepower I also run a electric fan too so my car stays as hot as possible
Yes it is. That's what makes this forum better than any other. You sometimes need humor after a long day of knuckle bashing and getting angry at your car. It amazing how nuts but funny some threads can get aint it.
I run a 180* no if's, and's or but's. My fan comes on @ arnd 200 off at 180/85. I like heat. I drive the car any time of year the roads are dry - I like heat. I am also of the opinion 160* is a little cool - "notice" I did say "OPINION". I feel the car runs more effieciently in the 180-200 range. I have not done any test to verify this THEORY it's just my feelings. I don't use the car daily so have not really bothered to do much on mileage test. I believe the automakers have done enough testing on this matter to have found the best/reasonable compromise for street driven vechicles...an that's what I have. If ur running a highly mod comp. vechicle some of these principals may not be the ticket for you. As someone mentioned earlier: To each his/their own....
It amazing how nuts but funny some threads can get aint it.
...and this is post # 40 and this...T-stat...thread is still on topic...
...and this is post # 40 and this...T-stat...thread is still on topic...
Lmao, you guys are a riot...
Well I put my 180* t-stat in and let her idle till it got dark, about 35 minutes and it never got over 173* I hope its OK.. I'll run it some more this weekend...
U shud have got to a least 180. U running engine driven fan? My car can idle 15 -20 min in this climate and will turn the efan on at abt 195.
