hey all Im Duane I live in rancho cordova CA (sacramento) and Ive been building a 72 mercury comet in my spare time when I have any extra money for the last couple of years but this last year Ive made ALOT of progress. once I figure out how to post pics I will I believe my car is a factory v8 car since it has a 5 lug set up on it already. as far as I know the car is stock with the exceptions of the newly rebuilt c4 trans with a 2500 stall a heavy shift kit and new clutches. the engine got a few upgrades this year including a new extreme energy cam new high volume oil pump a circle track high volume water pump a torker two 4brl intake and to finish it off it got a new edelbrock 650 carb. the goal is to take it out to sacramento raceway and get somewhere in the 12's to start and when the money pit is finally full Ill be in the high 9's to low 10's in the 1/4 mile
Hi duane, welcome. I bought my maverick from a guy who raced my car at sac. Do you recognise it? its on my avatar. Glenn
thanks for the warm welcome hey compheads I havent been out to the raceway yet. I live maybe 10 minutes away at the most. I just live on the other side of the military base if you know the area. WOW you bought a car from someone here in sac and youre in Australia? or that just where youre from originally? heres a few pics of my car when I got it for $500 and after a couple cases of generic spray paint
Welcome! I am also in Nor Cal, about 45 minutes away from you up hwy 50. I have been to Sacramento Raceway a few times, unfortunately never to race my Mav though.
Duane, If you get a chance run out to Sac. raceway and get a rulebook. If you plan on bracket racing, I believe they have 3 classes. Sportsman, pro and Super pro. Sportsmen can run as fast as 12.0. Pro can run lower than 9's. Faster than 11.49 you need a roll bar and SFI certified jacket., along with other stuff. Faster than 10, you neede to be licensed by NHRA and have a physical. Also the roll bar now becomes a roll cage, an engine diaper, and you have to have a firesuit, etc. Check what you need before your car is too fast to be legal out there. Good luck.
Welcome! I live 9 miles from Sac raceway and drive past it on the way home, if I could get some free time and a little motivation my car is just about ready. Wednesday nights are only 15 bucks to run and saturday test and tunes are 50, not sure on the exact rules but they are on the website. Not to sure about that wing back there though.
