'75 Comet with front disc brakes. When I pull the emergency brake it engages fine. When I release it, the spring under the car slacks and hangs down instead of pushing the levers back into place. The brake will not disengage until I bang the levers a couple of times to knock them back into place. I have greased up the entire lever system but it still doesn't work right. Ideas?

How are the rear cables? Do they slide freely inside their sleeves?

It is easy to pull the handle to engage the brake and the back cables seem to function properly. How loose should the long spring be? Mine seems pretty loose.
