Maverick and Comet lovers, I am restoring a 73 Comet GT. I took off the gas tank to inspect it and it is yellow/gold on the inside! Is this some sort of sealer that you may know of? Also, the outside of the tank has a thick, black sealant that was brushed on. It appears there were coins placed all over the tank, then the sealant was brushed on. Talk to me... what's up with the coins? Someone has also installed a drain plug, so it has been worked on before. I know there are some guys out there who know about these things...
Sounds like this stuff. Click on the instructions and it gives a lot more info. http://www.por15.com/US-STANDARD-TANK-SEALER/productinfo/TSG/
Not sure I am not sure it is the stuff? It says it is gray when it dries out. My tank is definitely bright yellow/ gold... maybe there is something else someone knows about... and how about the coins?
Do they braze the coins on? Silver solder? Epoxy? I'm older than dirt and have never ran across coins on a gas tank. Need more info. Sopp
