what 302 engines from other cars will fit in the mav? i need to do swap because i have a really bad head gasket, which i think is from block corosion. i still have two dead cylinders after a full tuneup, which i later found out have no compression. what i do have is extrem boilover from my rad, which ive replaced, and upon doing that i found large chunks of iron in the old one. my father says its prob from the block and to send the thinkg to the junkyard. i called him an ass and told him we were going to swap the engine on her. now i need to find one. what other cars can i find a 302 that will bolt right in? i'd like it to be a 4 barrel preferable, any will do fer right now....
any advice would be nice cause a rebuilt one from napa is $1200 down here which is the cheapest i can find, Thanks for your help guys!

Any Ford 302 will bolt right in. Doesn't matter what model it came out of. To keep things simple, I'd go with a pre-'80s model...

Some things you may think about your parents, don't have to be said to their face. Though you are 24 (read it from an earlier post), I do so hope you were doing that name calling in jest AND that he was returning the favor in a spirit of kidding around. If not, I hope you had to pick yourself up off the floor.

Just a venting comment from an old-fashioned guy approaching geezerdom.

Before I comment on the engine swap, a few words from a father with kids around your age. We as parents, have the toughest job on earth, keeping our families fed and clothed and also the kids raised the best we know how. To many now days, are defiant of all authority and belong to the "I want it now" generation. We dads and moms expect nothing in return for our efforts except respect and some love, from time to time. We are not perfect and just try our best. Maybe the moment was similiar to Dale Jr.'s when he let slip a word and got fined and points taken away(which in my opinion is a crock of "sh** too) go to the mall or local wally world, you'll hear more than that little descriptive word. Daytime soaps are nothing but high grade porn that you don't have to pay money to watch in a dirty little booth at the adult store. Jr got the perverbial shaft in my book, even though he's not my favorite person, he and Tony Stewart have been singled out for revenge of the gestapo's gang at nascar. Hope yours was just a slip also and dad is a forgiving person who loves you much.

The engine swap a stated in previous posts, is pretty much bolt in as long as you use your exsisting accessories and such. However, if you go the least espensive way with a used engine, you may end up with one just as bad as the original. If you need this car for daily use, plan a weekend and get a rebuilt long block and do the swap. Otherwise get a used one and go through it with a rebuild kit or use your exsisting engine, and find some other mode of transportation while it is down for repairs. Things always look bad when Murphy's law is going on, but stand tall and take it one step at a time. Don't think your father has not been there a million times, when you were just a twinkle in his eye. Good luck to both you and your dad.

Wow what a resopnse! Yes i was just joking around when i called my dad that, as was he when he told me to junk my mav, Just to set the record strait. I love my dad very much as does he love my car so i think we'll be alright. But yea i think i'll just get a proffesionally rebuilt engine and pass on a used one without knowlage of its history.
    Thanks for your concern guys....

Make sure you get the right era of engine. The early small blocks pre 1969 used a 3 bolt harmonic balancer not an issue if you have the correct pulleys available (Not Likely). After that they went to a 4 bolt harmonic balancer like the one in your car. In 1980 they moved to a 50 oz balance which would require the proper Harmonic Damper and Flywheel / Flexplate.

Passing off a messed up engine as a good one isn't being too honest. I couldn't do that to someone, what comes around goes around.

Oh, he meant pass on as in don't buy a used one. I thought he meant pass his bad used motor on to someone else without telling them...Sorry Snazzman.
