I was wondering what length an average 1977 ford maverick, 2door, 302/c4 , 8 inch rear end , driveshaft would be from center to center u joint. How long the yoke should be , diameter of the driveshaft . I have been having a vibration in the drivetrain ever since i bought my Maverick . I dropped the driveshaft and changed the u joints hoping that was the problem. When i was putting it back in , i noticed , when i put the yoke in the transmission all the way forward i had to pull it out a mile to reach the rear end. When i grabbed the front yoke i can move it up and down , it is barely in the tailshaft of my transmission. This car is by no means stock,it was put together by a shadetree mechanic that i bought it from,(had grass in the old motors oil pickup).(Old motor was out of a truck),(power steering pump was to). The driveshaft i pulled out of it os 45 1/2 center to center u joints , 6 1/2 from center of u joint to end of yoke , 28 spline , diameter of the driveshaft is small maybe 2 inch round. I know i have to have a longer driveshaft and have been told a foxbody driveshaft is longer.I can have one made , theres a shop not far away , but thought i would ask on these forums , if anyone knows mavericks it should be you guys. I have been crazy about mavericks since high school and am enjoying building me one now , the way i wish i could have then. Sorry it was so long , hope i didnt put anyone asleep , Thanks for any advice.
Fox body driveshafts (automatic trans) are the same length as yours. As are the 1996 to 2004's with an automatic. I'm running a new 04 shaft in mine, it's a leftover from production I bought from Ft.Wayne Driveline on Ebay.
