I have posted about this issue before but this time I actually have a picture to show what Im talking about. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=81896 I have read that there is a difference in legnth in the drive shaft/ front yokes in V8 and I6 cars, I went from 250I6 to a 302. with the V8 in my car this is how much of the yoke is showing, the car has mustang frame mounts(turned the correct way) but i will be swapping to maverick frame mounts next pay day due to the fact that the bolt holes dont line up. swapping frame mounts may or may not change this but at least i will have the correct frame mounts View attachment 53927 swapping frame mounts may or may not change this but at least i will have the correct frame mounts. If you look really close you can see a little line were it use to sit at. Is there enough showing to be worried?
That's kinda close, but should work as long as it's not bottomed out on the inside of the yoke. The line behind the seal ? No way that was working before, that's well past bottomed out.
I would wait untill you get the other frame mounts... ...FWIW... my Grabber was a 6 cyl/C-4 to start with. it had the small dia. driveshaft. i installed a 302/C-4 using the same drive shaft. when I did the 347/AOD swap I used the same driveshaft. when I swapped to the LS/700R4 transmission I used the same driveshaft. Earl ran this same driveshaft in his car with his...302/ 5-speed... ...the driveshaft is still the same length as stock...
You may not have realized it, but with the yoke that far into the transmission, it was putting something in a bind.
maybe someone has shortened the yoke snout... I slide my yoke all the way in and mark it. then when installed i can see how far it is into the tailshaft... my concern is for it not to hit at the...yoke/tailshaft seal...
It's a V8 shaft, I had 3 laying around here, and none of them fit. Which was frustrating at the time...I wanted to go for a drive .
If it's bottomed out on the inside against the transmission tailshaft, you're putting everything in a bind.
here is a picture of driveshafts I used in my 73. Top is out of a v-8 car lower 6cyl car. one about 1 inch longer.
If it's bottoming out against the end of the tailshaft, no amount of cutting the tube will correct that. You would have to shorten the end of the tailshaft or shorten the driveshaft.
