Ok, I have a 74 w/stock clutch pedals, I heard that you can't use the stock manual Mav linkage w/headers on a 302(5.0) because of major interference issues w/the Z-Bar. I do have that pilot bracket to bolt on to the newer block.

BUT, is there any headers(shorty or full length)that can be used in conjuction w/the stock linkage? My buddy wants to use the stock linkage & put in a 1989 5.0 & a T-5. I know it would be easier to use a cable set-up but is this possible to do? He thinks the factory 1989 5.0 headers will clear the clutch linkage, but not sure. Please let me know so I can pass the info on, thanks guys.

The 89 5.0 headers will NOT work in a Mav/Comet. Shock towers interfere as well as the frame rails with the collectors.

And the stock linkage with PUSH on the clutch fork where the T5 is set up for a PULL on the clutch fork. You would need to modify the the bell housing or use some of the adapters to put the old style bell on a T5.

I think even the Hedman shorty headers designed for the maverick will put the collector in the way of the z bar. I have heard of it being dons though unsing the bell housing adapter, z bar and headers. Just gotta find out who did it and get the right combination of parts.

Hooker 6901's are designed for the Z-bar. I personally haven't tried it, but I run those headers with a T5 and cable clutch currently. (custom pedal pivot, stock FOX Mustang quadrant)

The 6901's will work with with the Z bar as said BUT will need some adjustment if used with a scatter shield. They clear my top loader with external linkage and Hurst super shifter III ( with the straight shift rods) so I can see no reason why they won't work with a T-5.

Like i said earlier in this thread, Z-bar does not work with a T5 bellhousing. It pushes the clutch fork the wrong way. Maybe this info should be a sticky somewhere

I ran Blackjack headers with a factory zbar, scattershield and toploader. Hooker 6901 will work as well

I ran Blackjack AK5000 headers on my last maverick with stock linkage and a lakewood bell. Everything fit like a glove. I'm putting 6901's on my current project. Haven't installed everything yet but I can tell you that they don't fit as good as the blackjacks did but those were bought in 1985 and long gone!

I assumed when he asked about using the stock Mav linkage, he was talking about the entire clutch release arrangement which would require modifying an early bellhousing and fork to work with the T5, not using the late T5 bellhousing. There is no reason to use the Zbar at all with a cable clutch.

After reading a link posted earlier I finally tracked down the parts that can be used to modify the T5 bell housing to accept a Zbar. You need the early clutch fork and throw out bearing, and this kit http://www.cjponyparts.com/64-68-t5...-style-linkage-pre-2/15/68-1964-1968/p/T5FB1/ then some drilling and grinding and it should work.

Thats more than $100 more than using the T5 bell and adapting it for the clutch fork. But the cost of having to buy a starter to match the T5 may make up for it if somebody already had a manaul car and if the starter they already have will match up to the T5.

I ran my Blackjacks for over 20 years. Replaced them with 6901s a couple years ago. The Hookers fit better. Both clear the linkage without problem.
