Been looking around here and have not found it if it is would be handy. Is there any detailed layout or full info on what needs to be done when installing a 302 v8 into a maverick, like what changes would have to be made what would have to be used and how it's done without having trouble in the end result of the swap. Just a idea someone could wright or layout the plans in detail and they could make a area for it for the ones wanting to install 302 v8s into there maverick. My thinking is the rear end thats already in the maverick would not hold up to well to the power of a 302 v8, then again i could be wrong but i have seen alot of rear ends get riped out with a 302 v8.
It has been my understanding that the 8 inch (not the 7.5") rear end in the Mavericks is actually pretty stout. Unless you are going to be spraying a 200 shot at an already strong (300+ HP) engine, I would say the 8 inch would do you fine. However, I would change the gear oil, and check the wear on the teeth. New gears ranging from 3.00 to 4.11 to 5....+ are only about 170.00 from Jegs or Summit. Personally I wouldn't be afraid to hit my rearend (with new gears) with 500 horsepower. Now keep in mind that I am talking about a street-driven car. If you are going to be doing hard-core drag racing day after day after day- GO WITH A 9 INCH!! Otherwise, you should be okay. Hope this helps, and everyone- IF I messed up on something.....PLEASE correct me!!! Thanks, Preston
hey snazzman, don't feel alone with the boilover problems. as many know i have been fighting a overheating problem on my 4dr for many months. as it turns out i also have either a bad head gasket or cracked head. anyway i am sending mine out next week to have the engine pulled and rebuilt by a local machine shop. i am using the edelbrock performer rpm power package that edelbrock designs for 302's. they claim to get 367h.p. and 340 ft/lbs tourque using this system. i am farming this all out and it should run around $4500. just something to consider when you go to replacing or rebuilding. a new ford racing crate motor will run $4000 then you have to assemble it too. i guess it depends how mechanical you and your dad are.
experentially speaking. one impressive sounding word. i need to use it more. funny thing about tis board..2 or more totalyy un related conversations within the same thread...i love it!!!!!!! :bananaman
sorry sorry if i upset anyone by asking things i would like to knowi, i was asking ? to be sure of myself when i do go about doing it. Cause i have never did one and trying to get my fath up to doit mavericks around here are hard to find i found 2 about a month ago for a 100 bucks each, but i had things to happen that knocked me out of them. I would like to find one in my area that come from the factory with a 302 init and then take a 302 and build it the way i want it and put it in , but i don't think there are any members here in the bedford virginia area within 25 or 30 miles.
jason thanks, i also plan on getting that very same package, just much farther down the road, right now i just need a dependable car.
