Take the ashtray out and reach in behind the cluster to disconnect the speedometer cable

It'll come out, if you push it in, and spin it around, It's been awhile, but I've done it.

You don't need to take it out to get the speedo cable off, but it does make it easier.

No need to take out the ash tray, just reach up under the dash and feel your way up the speedometer cable. There is a white clip where it plugs into the back of the speedometer. You have to squeeze that white clip and pull the cable out.

Craig is the man and he is right on. You don't have to take the ashtray out but I found it to be a lot easier. That and I don't like to stand on my head to get under the dash. Good luck

The clip on mine broke too but the cable wouldn't stay in with the broken clip. I pulled the cable up thru the floor some and put a small hose clamp around it to hold it there. Now I can slip the cable in and out of the speedometer head with ease and the cable stays in the head.

I remove mine by removing the cable frm the trans first. I then pull the cable a few inches into the car, frm there I can get the cluster out far enouugh to reach the clip "my car is flr shifter", so not hampered by the shift lever. I assume this won't work for non-flr-shifters.
