OK so I found out the swap meet front sump oil pan I bought came the wrong pick up in it. It's a typical old 302 Mustang style pan going on a 5.0 so the old (and new) one won't work. Any recommendations for getting a replacement (factory or aftermarket)? I haven't priced them out yet, as I was in the middle of installing the new oil pump when I found out I had the wrong one and would like to get it buttoned up soon. I assume they should be available pretty easily but I thought if someone had a "best value" recommended replacement this would be the place to hear about it.
I bought a Mellings pump and pickup from the auto parts store 15 years ago. I would suppose that they are still readily available. The Mellings pickup has a full screen, too. The factory has a bypass feature that if the screen gets clogged, it can still draw oil. Nice thought, but it can draw crud into the pump too, like broken down pieces of valve guide ... TWICE .... . Jammed the pump and broke the drive for it both times. If you get one with a full screen, that can't happen.
I might have a used one you could try? I'm sure one of the guys I have coffee with would have one, or one of the guys is a Ford parts guy...
You may be the guy to talk to then....actually that would be great if you have a connection. I'm just west of London
Tomorrow I'll be in Delaware for most of the day, but I'll do some digging on Wednesday, I'll call over to the Mustang shop and see whats kickin around.
Delaware? Doing some "hot laps"? Let me know if you find anything. I can deliver a Tims for a finders fee!
