well actually im not sure ...i just got the mav back from paint and the engine bay is pretty spotless ...not sure i want to risk scratching it.....how hard is it to put the trans in seperatly from the engine? i have only put in and removed with the trans attached....
I have always installed the engine and transmission together. Just have another set of hands to help. Belly bar shouldn't be an issue as the steering is in close proximity. If it is in the way it is only 2 bolts.
I would install the engine and tranny together, and you can do it without scratching anything....I DID!! Takes a few pieces of cardboard.
Craig, Do you have the back end of the car jacked up, too? Looks like it. I just saw that trick somewhere else lately. I think it had to do with Shelby Cobras ... it was one of those ... "why didn't I think of that moments".
Did you put those socks back in the sock drawer when you finished the install ? lmao... really, that is a great idea for chain padding...
Yes......get the back end as high as you can, and get the front end as low as you can. CAUTION: Front can't be too low. If the car is sitting on it's suspension, and once you drop the engine in, the weight of the engine will make the front end of the car even lower, possibly making it impossibe to get the engine hoist out from under the car.
I pulled the 351/Glide out of the Maverick in one piece. The car was on jack stands on the rear and ramps on the front. I did take the belly bar out first then the transmission cross member because one the pan cleared the suspension, I have a Milidon 30926 pan and you need to slide the engine/trans forward then up at a pretty steep angle.............it really does need two people.................it just takes a little time and put plenty of blankets/cardboard just to make sure. Laying on your back (if you don't have a lift) is the pits, and then you have to put the convertor bolts in...........it's just a pain............IMHO
