i found a 1964 or 1965 ford econo line van. the one with the strait six in between the front seats and it has a 9" rear end on it. it looks kind of like fords version of a corvair. with an engine in the front. will this match strait up to my comet or will it have to be shortened. because if it has to be shortend i wont buy it. i can get a 9" from a guy i know for free out of a 1975 ford f-150. my other question is: i have a bar in my car that goes between the the places where the seat belts bolt to the roof. is this stock or some kind of after market thing. does any one else have one.
That rearend might be offset,as in the driver side might be longer than the passenger side.I know the `68-73 vans were like that for sure.I had a `69 and it had a factory 3.50 Posi 9" in it!
I used to have one of those vans. I didnt know they had 9" rears in them. Sheese, how'd I miss that. Best thing to do is measure. Our rears are 42 3/4 center to center on the spring perches and 56 1/4" wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface.
That is a narrow van there. The overall width might just be good for your car. The spring perches would almost certainly need to be moved. That is nothing for a welding shop though. The other concerns are: Availability of brake parts for that old of a vehicle. Wheel bolt pattern. Dave
I know they are standard 5 lug 4 1/2" circle. I believe originally they were 13" rims. If so, I'll bet they are hard to find.
The 9" rearend in my Maverick is fom an Econoline. It's the later years though ('71-'72?). I found this out by having to figure out which brake shoes and hardware to get. I spent a LONG time going through the books and nooks of a NAPA parts house to figure that one out.
