You didn't refresh our memories as to what engine combo you're running again, so that's a hard question to answer. Top speed also depends on what the rear tire diameter is also. But if you had 26" tires and the engine could pull the car to 5500 rpms in third, top speed would be 103 mph. Your rpms at 60 mph with a 26" tire and 4.11's is 3187 (not taking into account the slippage in the torque converter though.)

3.50's are a more useful all around gear if you're going to do some highway driving. If mostly street, the 3.80's would get the nod. My Comet's got 3.50's with 26.5 tires, but it's also comfortable cruising the interstate at 75-80 at 3500 rpms.

NOD means his choice would be the 3.80 gear.
Hes right on with the RPM. I run 4:11 and about 3000-3100 at 60mph. 255/60/15.

My car really likes that 3000 rpm range but it gets annoying after about 45 minutes on the hwy.

They sure are fun off the HWY though.:D

Yep, I have 4:11's and they're sure fun, fuel economy would be better with something like 3.80's and probably an all around better gear, but I got my rearend from a pull-a-part in the rain and I like being able to tow a Suburban up a driveway  I've got a 9" rearend in my backyard with 2.96 gears... doesn't sound like a lot of fun to me.

Another vote for 3 80s my car is actually quick now. You will also want to pick up a mini-spool, or something like it while your diff is apart. 3 80s and 1 wheel drive makes loooots of tire smoke but not much go.

don't be embarrassed about learning how to do things. everyone starts once.

this is a mini spool. it locks your 2 back tires together so both drive the car. it is a cheep option but not the only option. there is true-track (posi but you get killed if you call it that here) it is a ford option, or all different kinds of after market options that do similar things. as it is, your car is most likely a one wheel drive car. as in only one tire would spin if you stomped the throttle. I like mini spool but have nothing against the other types. if you get a mini spool, you will always have both tires turning the same speed even around turns so they will chirp. not a big deal to me but some don't like it.

Something else you should know about a spool, they can be extremely dangerous to drive for the inexperienced driver on slick roads. They're not for everybody. You can find yourself facing the wrong way in traffic on a slick road before you even realize it.
