ok guys here is my question , I finally got my Grandmothers 1972 mercury comet 2 door ,200 , 3 on the tree it has 41,651 original miles NO rust was arizona car , so the interior is TOAST seeat dry rotted and dash cracked and as is the steering wheel, paint is faded sat in storage for 19 years Got it back on the road went through brakes and sericed everything . I have several Comet and Maverick owner friends around the Louisville area saying I need to leave it as is as a survivor and not touch it I'm wanting to redo the interior as close as stock and maybe a paint job , does have several dings and dent from being in storage in Moms garage , tooks us 4 hours to uncover it I do have a set of 260 z wheels on it right now but saved the steel wheels and hub caps so I guess would like to hear what everyone here thinks drive like it is ?? or make it a sweet little head turning driver ???
Restore it. Mechanically and cosmetically. Make it run like a deer and sound like a beast. You'll enjoy it a lot more. The thumbs ups and "Pretty!!" comments are fun to get.
do whatever makes you happy..then bring it to the MCG meet in somerset, ky. the 3rd weekend in july (you can find the details in the MCG page). where are you located exactly? also we need to see pics
In Elizabethtown not far from you , was going to try to make it last year But I had it apart going through the brakes , That was fun !! found a old 8 track player and starting to refurbis alot of old tapes , got to have tunes !!! how rare is a 200 3speed on the tree with no power anything ??? LOL Thought I had some pics on the computer but can't find them will post some soon
Do whatever is going to make you happy. The MCG had its first ever Gathering in Elizabethtown almost 6 years ago. It was organized by Ward Frahler who lives there also. Even if you don't have the car running or finished come to Somerset in July. You'll see some really nice Mavericks and Comets.
I live right out past etown CC before carter lumber , don't know wardf , just now getting back into the car thing did a few cruise witha friend out of Sheperdsville has a Sweet gold GT
yes indeed it is no matter where i go my car was the same 200 with 3 peed on the tree but the shift broke of so i had to go to floor shifter good luck with the car and do what u want it will make u happy
Fix the interior and paint it. A survivor car has survived the years in nice shape (my opinion) with presentable cosmetics. When you really get down to it, a survivor is really only worth something if it's a "special" car like a Mustang GT, Boss etc or LS6 Chevelle or any first gen Camaro, you get the point.
