Hi Everyone Is there anything available to change the steering ratio? so i dont have to turn the wheel to much when racing. Best regards Phil
If you have manual steering you can swap over to a power steering box, that's an easy way to change the ratio. Manual box is 20:1 Power box is 16:1
Thanks but I was hoping for a bit less than 16:1 as I plan to race it over here in the UK and our circuits can be quite tight. Worth a thought though thanks
What i'm also seen is custom steering links, but that's also probably banned. I didn't know you were running a specific class(because you didn't list it), sorry
Ive not seen those?? could get away with them as long as they look like they should be there. Any idea where to get them?
Shelby used a longer pitman arm and idler arm to achieve a quicker ratio, but I don't know if they would mate with the Maverick center link and exhaust and frame clearance might be an issue. Maybe someone here has tried...
The ones I've seen were just custom made out of tubing and rod bolt ends, it was on the show "muscle car". You might be able to see the shows here: http://www.powerblocktv.com/ I'm pretty sure it was on their comet project. They look totally custom though, rack and pinion would look more normal since Ford did put racks in earl-mid 70's cars. now those are really cool! Never knew they existed
Like was said above, power steering box with manual pitman arm. Call Roger Rodes at (419) 468-5182. He is the best with rebuilding vintage Mustang/Fairlane stuff. If it is possible to make gear changes, he is the guy that would know.
