New to maverick forum!!!

Im 16, new to this forum dont have a car yet, but looking at a couple of mavericks. question for anyone who can answer. does the maverick have a subframe, or a regular frame? and whats the difference between the two. I cant find any info after hours of googling and searching this forum.

 

Mavericks have front and rear subframes welded into the floor pans along with the structural help of torque boxes and front inner fender panels and a radiator support all welded in to the firewall. A full frame car is exactly what it says - a full frame from the front bumper alll the way back to the rear bumper. With a full frame car, you could take the entire body shell off of the frame.

I see, but i have seen people on here on mav forum that somehow took the body off the subframe, do you have to reweld it on? and I want to make the car into a street/strip. my goal would be to run a 12 second quarter. can it be done with a subframe? or do i need to strengthen the subframe?

Welcome...Yes you can run 12s' with a subframe mav...I would however suggest the installation of sub frame connectors to stiffen the chassis up a bit.

 

As stated earlier, the body and the frame are one. U've seen folks remove all the suspension, drivetrain and interior - in essessence strip the car.
U probably have seen some of the cars on rotisseries and thought the body was removed frm the frame ---- NO SO.
If u look close to some of the cars u will see the frame members merge into the body. Larger Fords are body on frame like PU trucks.

 

true, however, I found a resto thread the other day and the guy took the rear subframe off to do some patchwork. just curious is all, and does anybody know where to buy subframe connectors and how to install them? I will google to the best of my ability. thanks

Welcome to the board. Do a search on subframe connectors. Using the search function on this board will answer many of your questions. Subframe connectors will stiffen the body of the car. Running 12's is not that hard with a 302, especially if you remove a lot of the weight like the interior and move some around like putting the battery in the trunk, etc. You do need to get everything running together. Engine, tranny, torque convertor, suspension, rear end, etc. Good luck.

 

No they didnt. they just use the term frame off resto. Maybe thats what you have seen/heard. You cant take the body off the frame cause the body is the frame. Its not like a Camaro etc where you can remove the front frame section. you may have seen the shock towers removed on our cars or a tubular frame being installed?? You simply cant remove our body off the frame. Like I said it is the frame.

 

Up here in the rust belt replacing rear frame rails is standard procedure. Its not removing the body from the frame though. Its just installing new rails and probably trunk floor etc. Personally if I had to go that far I wouldnt install factory rails. Id back half the car.

 

okay, thats what I mean, I just didnt know how to word it. I remember he had the rear end off that was from under the trunk. and he was patching the trunk. thanks.
