I bought a 72 Maverick off of a guy named Steve from Indiana wayyyy back in 2004. The car was not streetable then and I was away in the military so I parked it and have been tinkering with it ever since. I did not transfer the title like a responsible normal person would do. Instead I put it up in my safe. Now the car is getting close to road worthy and I need to transfer the title. Unfortunately the title has since disappeared along with some savings bonds I had. The state of Illinois will not title it without a valid title from Indiana to transfer. SOOOO.... Anyone recognize this car or know its owner?
Bigger picture. Also, where did you buy it from? What state, craigslist or off the side of the road? Cannot help you without more details. Can you run the vin against the state and see who's name the title is/was in?
I bought the car in Indiana from a seller on www.fordmaverick.com I tried running the VIN through IL and IND with no record returning. The car hasn't been registered for about 5 years and its pretty common for DMVs to purge any records of vehicle that haven't been registered in a long time.
Alot of those guys are on here. Go back to the for sale section and see who you bought it from. I found a couple, including one posted by Craig Selvey (prominent member here). See who the seller was, and report back to us. He may either be a member, or friends with a member. We just might be able to track him down that way.
That is a good start. We have several members with names similar, sadly, most haven't been very active. Maybe someone knows him secondhand... By the way, nice looking car. I really like that huge tucked rear tire... I also REALLY like that little shop in the background!
go to the owners page on that website ... search US and Indiana ... looks like it might be Steve Pence, there is a pic posted.
Thats my Dads shop. If you notice in the background tucked away in the shop is a 65 Buick Gran Sport. Awesome car, I've got a pic of it somewhere around here.
Best of luck getting it titled .... it is certainly the RIGHT color (I know ... you are probably painting it something different, but, I like my green...)
Watch out with this sort of title company. I had the Wisconsin DMV people at the main office in Madison tell me they will not recognize one of these titles. Before laying out good money on a title service, talk to your states DMV to find out what they require.
