I'm in the process of restoring the factory 14x6 steel wheels from the 76.

I will be using the hub caps from the 73 (the ones in my avatar, I polished them up w/ compound) and 1 1/2" wide stainless steel trim rings.

I can't decide what color to paint the wheels!

Body color (which will be orange), gloss black, satin black or silver?

Can any of you show me pics of your factory steel wheels?

    Thanks,
    Jim P.

Pic of my first Comet from 1981 or so ... 14x7 station wagon rims on rear, 14x4.5 stockers on the front. Never much cared for the trim rings, but I think it was because the 14s had such a small diameter. 15s might be a different story.

Gotta love the body colored wheels. They would look great with the stainless trim rings also!

How does this look w/ the trim ring? Body color (I'm sold on it after all those pics!)

I don't think I have seen those center caps with the ribbed edges mounted with trim rings before. The ribbing makes for a really cool reflection in the trim ring. :thumbs2:

I don't normally like factory wheels, but now, those pics have changed my mind a bit. If they are well done, then they look great. Thanks for the post.

    Thanks for all the replies!

The 73 wheels were mint (if anyone needs a set for a drum brake car, let me know), but the 76 wheels are very rusty and pitted on the rim portion.

I added the trim ring to hide most of that. I was happy with the outcome!
