Heres one for the sake of info. I called North Coast Performance to ask about the Scat Forged H beam 393 stroker kit they sell. I finally got to talk to a sales Guy. I asked him if the Scat kit will be ok in a 69 351W 9.4" deck block, he says No Not enough deck hieght. I siad "Really thats interesting". He goes on to say that the 69 block is a Dog cause nothing fits it. Hmm. So I called Scat and asked a Tech the same question. He said yes if works it just places the top of the piston level with the deck. I asked if thats a problem, and if I should have a little shaved off the tops of the pistons. He says You can if you want but were only talking about the thickness of a paper clip in difference, besides youll have a little bit more compression, just get heads with more chamber. So I read everything I could find on the i nternet on this subject and it all pretty much in line with what the Scat Tech told me. If I was gonna build top qaulity cranks, I dont think I would name my company SCAT. Any Thoughts?
Don't know if i would call Scat a top quality crank along the lines of a Moldex or Sonny Bryant....Having said that, since Ford had 2 deck heights for the 351 that were within a few thousanths i guess production sense said to go with the taller one leaving builders to check and adjust with gaskets or other means
I agree, I own a couple VW'S also. One being aircooled. I know guys who own VW shops and they talk down about Scat, these days. They say that, Scat is outsourcing to, you guessed it, China. So, you don't really know what you're getting. It's sad, because Scat used to be such an authority in the aircooled VW world. So where are they making the American V/8 cranks at now?
