So Ive moved onto the next thing I am ready to purchase for the car... Twin Turbo Kit. I need new stronger rods, cam, bearings, crank, port my heads. No idea what specs I need right now. In the middle of figuring that out. (tons of posts to read still) What I am thinkin I am going to do is just get all the parts I need and pay a shop out to install everything. How many hours or what are the running rates for something like that? I am just looking for a rough estimate really. I'm in planning budgeting mode again. Thanks for your time! -Andrew
No need to build your motor the stock block will only hold about 600 hp. To do twins your lookin at at least 4000 to do your self. My single setup of which I already have efi I have about 2500 in it. Twins are gonna be hard to do with the limited room.
Most shops get between 75-150hr Depending on parts used a custom built kit can run 3k+ I can tell you i have less then 1k in my setup but thats what i do for a living and get a good cut on parts.

(That was when I asked about twin turbo labour) I don't think that's including cam, crank, pistons or bearing labour.
That turbo setup is for an acura integra. A good turbo for a stock to mild 302 is a t70 w/ .68 A/R turbine housing or a turbonetics 60-1
Russ (Joe Dirt) has a setup that by far outshines a lot of turbo setups I've seen. If you want a "Good Machine Shop" to put a motor together for you it just depends on what they have to do. If you were to have a machine shop build the motor (one that builds race motors or stout street motors) they would check the block, check line bore, mag, clean, priority oiling, debur block, paint, take your rods/crank/pistons/cam/lifters..............then bore, line hone, hone each piston, setup rings, check big and little end on the rods (even new ones may not be good enough to use out of the box in a high HP motor) and then assemble the motor and dial in the cam, setup the rocker geometry and choose push rod length, setup the heads, checking spring pressure, ets................$4000/$4500 and that doesn't include any parts. A twin tubo would cost considerable more because you would have to use an aftermarket block like World or Dart. As for the guy in the back of the bike/trike shop that says he can do it for $700.................I doubt the guy knows much, as preping the block will cost more than that. As for a stock block making more than 600HP............my stock block 351 is making close to 650HP with a single carburetor on a 72 stock block and I intend to run it all this season.................................and maybe into next.
you dont need a fully built motor for twin turbo. its the size of the turbos that matters. there are several factors to consider. first the strength of the weakest component. this will be the whole short block in this case. that level is 500-600 hp. so first step on deciding on what turbo system to run is how much power do you want to make. so if you want twin turbo you need two small turbos capable of around 300 hp each. or a single turbo capable of 500-600 hp. sizing the turbos for your needs is the most important part of having a well running turbo car. a twin turbo car will have less turbo lag than a single. its a mater of inertia. two smaller turbos will spin up faster than a single. modern turbo technology has made this difference very minimal. the actual cost of fabricating the kit is about the same. they will use about the same a mount of material. it is easier to fit a single turbo in the maverick engine compartment. check out this site http://www.theturboforums.com all your questions have already been answered on that site so try the search option first. they can be mean about that.
