I've had a start situation on and off for about 6 months. hit the key sometimes and it would just...click. hit again and hold it...it would start. could swap starters and it would crank everytime... put the other starter on and ...click. had the starter rebuilt...same thing...click took it back 2 more times and it tested good but nothing but a...click... the starter that was on the car would crank every time, I just wanted to know why all the other starters would do nothing but...click. got a new starter yesterday and ...click... when Effie got home she road up on the lift and turned the key so I could run a voltage check...I Love Her so ...Berry-Berry much... 12.59...at batt. (in trunk) 12.59...across disconnect switch in the on position. 12.49...at starter end of batt. cable. 12.45...at sol. wire...in crank position. 5.40...at sol. with wire hooked up and key in crank position. 0.25...across sol. with key in crank position. 12.45 at neutral saftey switch in crank position. 5.40...across neutral saftey switch in crank position... BINGO!!! bad saftey switch...:bananaman put a jumper wire across saftey switch...cranks every time so far...
Not enough current flow through neutral safety switch/High resistance...OR...High reistance through ignition switch. Take the ignition switch out of the loop and see what you get at the starter... Never mind Frank...I didnt see the BINGO line of your post...LOL...
Sorry but I have to ask for pics of the neutral safety switch and jumper if possible. I may have a similar issue.Thanks.
Ok, but - - - -, why would changing the starter have anything to do with the neutral switch? I'm glad you're running, but that part I can't figure out!
could just be the draw on the sol...if not that, I don't have a clue... kinda like Earls car...motor won't start if...tach is disconnected...
the switch had 2 male connectors on it. i made a jumper wire with 2 male ends on it to plug into the female connectors on the wires...
