Here are the pictures of my Mavrick finally. Please tell me what you think. I have big dreams for this car. I would like to switch to small bumpers. Please send me some advice on how to do this and possibly a parts list for what I will need to do this. The body work is my first priority, because I don't want it to get any worse than it already is (as you can see). And then I would like to swap in a 351 w, which I hope to start building after Christmas. I realise that a engine swap of this size will be a huge task. Do you think this Mavrick is too far gone? I need some positive renforcment, PLEASE, as this is the biggest project I have ever tried to tackle and the worst car I have ever had to work with.
How much of the rust on the driver's side is all of the way through? That would seem to me to be the worst part of it. The passenger side looks pretty good. Are the torque boxes, cowl vent, floor pans, and trunk pans pretty good? The outer body work is only a small (okay, not so small) part of the work. The engine swap will be basically bolting items in, and any electrical problems/modifications will just be time consuming (and sometimes frustrating). Body work will be the main issue. If you check out the items I listed above, and are still willing to make a try at it, then I say by all means do it!! This is your car, and I am assuming that you will be the one working on it, so it is just left up to you as to whether or not it is worth it. I would say that if everything else is decent, that I would try it. JMO, as it is your car, but if you really want it and are willing to really work on it, it'll happen!! Good luck! Preston
Um yes what he said ! Do you have any pictures of the torque boxes and frame rails ? Are you good with metal and do you have a welder or a buddy that does ?
Its a test to see how much you like Mavericks. A big project if you don't have a lot of previous experience. Sometimes buying a car closer to completion may save you thousands and I mean thousands in the long run. Best of luck either way you choose.
The front fender and the door are real bad but I have new ones that came with the car. I have a new passenger side door. What are the torque boxes? cowl looks good to me but the floor pans suck! The electrical has had a mouse get a hold of it. I thinking about waiting to find a pre 73! How much off the parts off this 76 will work on it? I don't know that my wife would let me have another project car right now. She won't say as much about me working on the one I have now but if I buy another one...she'd kill me.
Listen to the bull. Looks like it's way too much trouble unless you have all the skills, tools, work area, money and most of all - patience. I, personally, would look into finding one in much better shape for a reasonable price.
Pintoches I know where you can get a 2 door Comet and a Mav for 500 have not seen the Mav but the Comet is in pretty good shape just have to deal with some title problems if you want to know more you can IM me at yahoo Jmon2271.
This car has obviously suffered a lot over the years. The torque boxes are at the front end of the frame rails. You also need to look at the rear shackles on the frame where the rear of the leaf springs attach to the frame. The floorboards are a concern with a neglected specimen as this one is. Check the front bumper supports. They can rot on the big bumpered ones. The area where the rear bumper supports bolt to the rear frame are also prone areas. Look closely at the top areas of the shock towers for rot. Obviously, the more work you do yourself saves you $$. With a car in this condition, if you have to farm out the expensive work, it'll cost you plenty. I'd really look VERY closely at everything and make a decision from there. Heavy duty body and frame work is much more expensive than mechanical repairs and modifications. I'm not trying to be pessimistic here, but as most of us have found out over time, you need to be realistic about the investment of money and time especially when the subject of the restoration is as neglected as this one seems to be.
