I was doing some work on my sister in law's 2008 ford edge, and it ocurred to me, how hard could it be to swap the SUV's v6 into the mav. It would sure make pretty decent power and good fuel economy and since the mav is several pounds lighter it could make it quick enough what do you think? I haven't seen a v6 power mav, they're always l6.
An older 4.0L shouldn't be real hard. They are the same engine family as the old 2.8L so it could be carburated with the right intake.
Whats the width like compared to a 302? I've thought of a V6 out of an Escape, if you mount it around the other way. My wife's Escape is pretty peppy.
Our daily drivers are a 98 Explorer and 07 Mustang .... both with the SOHC 4.0s and 5 speed autos. 40 HP jump from the older 4.0s.... 205 ....It is a bigger motor too ... wider. Might need a shock tower notch, and I imagine the oil pan would be a nightmare. Sooo ... Mustang II front end is probably in order. Can't help but wonder what that would drive like in a car 800 lbs lighter than the Mustang, because that is a fun car in itself. It wouldn't be the fastest thing out there, but it would be a great daily ride. You would probably want to adapt the entire Mustang dash too, because there are so many electronics involved.
I have a 2008 Ford Edge limited edition and it hauls @$$. 265hp for a V6 is not bad at all. I say thro one in and see how it works
I test fit a 3.0L 'vulcan' V6 from a 2001 Ranger in a Maverick several years ago with a 5R55E 5 speed automatic trans behind it. These are very smooth running, nearly indestructible engines and I thought it would be a great match up for a Maverick. Original I6 motor mount.. This swap was obviously very do-able as far as the size goes, but the main problem was the engine has a REAR sump oil pan. These pictures were taken with the steering center link removed... the rear sump made it impossible to drop the engine in with it installed. Unfortunately on this particular engine, it is impossible to convert it to front sump due to the design of the oil pump. From what I can find, virtually all modern V6 engines are rear sump ONLY.
I have also dropped '94 Taurus SHO engine in a Maverick. It would fit with a shock tower notch. Didn't take any pics, though.
Exactly! That hp is more than enough to cruise around, drive daily, and even smoke a couple of disrespectful douches!
What would be cool is to drop the new Eco-Boost 6 out of a new truck into one, that would be a good running car.
