    seat belt trafic ticket

hellow every one my name is julie i got a trafick ticket for no seat belt ,my ford maverick 1973 4 door has the shoulder seat belt and allso the lap seat belt but you cant conect both at the same time they are two differnt attachments i dont know if the car was made like that atr not.

At the time i was pulled over i had my lap seat belt on but i guess since the officer cold see the shoulder one hanging he thought i wasnt wearing one . Do you guys know of the california laws on this or any way i could get some kind of considerable defence to this traffic ticket ?

If it's there, you gotta use it. I would think.

Yes, you have to connect them before you click it in. You can't hook the shoulder restraint in the lap restraint after you have clicked into the buckle. It is a crappy system, but that's the way it is made. Shoulder restraints were just an option back then.
The law in North Carolina reads; you have to use what the vehicle was manufactured with. Hense, if it was made with only a lap restraint, you can't be ticketed for not wearing a shoulder restraint. Made from the factory with no seatbelt, no seatbelt ticket can be issued. :)
