My question has been posed in this thread already.. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=33061&page=2.. but I was hoping to increase it's visibility to more members with a thread titled for this specific question.

Anyone ever see.. or better yet.. have pictures of a factory installed red vinyl top on any of these cars?

Any input is appreciated and thanks for your consideration in my hunt for knowledge. :)

I don't know about red but I know the Orange vinyl top was a very red orange.

Just looked at the pics in the other thread and I agree either that used to be red or you have a severe rust issue on the roof.

And now I'm jealous because thats one of my favorite interior colour schemes.

    Thanks for that.

I assume you are talking about that cat turd Orange found on the cat turd orange colored cars?

Reminds me of the old Kohler bathtub colors from the 70's too. Almost like a terracotta orange color on flower pots. lol

I'll be messing about with the car more tomorrow when weather permits and may strip a larger section of the roof with some water soluble stripper to post a pic for you guys to look at and see what you think. (y)

Found my answer much quicker than I ever expected thanks to mcknight77 sharing the Marti report he purchased back in 2007 for this very car.

I can't imagine that there were very many red topped cars like this one ever built and am tickled pink.. err.. red.. to verify that it is indeed a factory colored stock top.

I'll likely restore it to factory exterior.. but I do know that it would be damned sharp car with slightly better color coordination if it were painted black instead of the factory white. Black paint.. red top.. red GT stripe.. red interior.. red engine.

My younger brother had a 4dr maverick a few years back and it was red and white with a red vinyl top. It was a nice looking car.

cool... thanks for the feedback. Keep up the input guys. (y)

I almost bought a cheap 4 door to do a V8 swap many years ago. Until I looked underneath the hood and saw all the rust on the shock towers. No way I could have made my mildly modded 351W stay attached between those rails. Talk about your sudden camber adjustments. lol

The midwest can be very tough on these unibody cars. :(

I just looked at the reports for my 2 vinyl top cars, and it breaks them out under the "Statistics" as to how many cars had the same color top, kinda weird that report for your car doesn't tell you. My reports are the deluxe reports, same as the one posted.

    Hmmm... the plot thickens. lol

Thanks for that, bud. Maybe it has to do with the age of the report? :hmmm:

Mine was from 2007.. when was yours done?

When I was looking to get a marti report I think I remember reading that they would break out the stats for 5 random options. Too bad you can't choose what you want but if is not there you would have pay them to research it.

Here's a pretty well-known Maverick with a red vinyl top.

thanks for the feedback guys. very cool to know there are a few others out there.

it seems kind of silly to get a red vinyl top when you already have red car.. but it must be something about that "upscale look and texture" for the ones who order it I guess.

And I'm fairly sure that Ford/Mercury(and it's dealer network) did choose to randomly create certian combo's just because they thought they would spice up the inventories.
