I haven't had a tag light since I changed out to the small bumpers. I had a couple, but they were so rusted up, I never could get either one to work, so I left them off. I ran across these the other day in a truckstop: As you can see, they're quite bright, even in the daylight. I had already drilled a new hole for the wires since the original was behind the tag frame. I put a small grommet in to protect the wires. I then needed a way to mount the light. Since it is so lightweight, I decided double sided foam tape would hold it. Then it was just a matter of sticking it to the bumper. I chose to stick it to the front lower side of the gap, on the inside of the bumper so it would be out of sight. Then it was just a matter of putting the wires through the grommet and hooking them up. I made sure to test it before the final connection because LED's will only work on one polarity. Don't have any night shots yet, but will put one up when I can. Time involved: about 15 minutes. Cost: about $10 for the LED light, but I got mine in a 50% off sale so I paid $5.
Yes, it is hooked up to the original tag light wires. One is ground, the other is hot. Just make sure to hook the hot to the red on the LED.
Cool deal! The cops sure can't say it's not bright enough! I actually got pulled over for that in Daytona Beach!
As promised, some night time pics: Taken with a flash Taken without a flash. The light fills out the tag nicely.
