So I got a 302 out of a 1980 f-150. I neet to understand the mod to get the oil dipstick to go to the front instead of on the drivers side. what is done to cover the hole left by the dipstick tube and how does the dipstick migrates to the front? All of this necessary to put this motor in the Mav................

I got a new timing chain cover. It came with a small plug, looked like a mini freeze plug. The plug was to put in the timing chain cover or the block so you could put the dip stick in either location.

Your local parts house. Just don't expect big things from an 80-85 302, they've got the weakest blocks and cranks, plus crappy heads. Hope you didn't pay too much for it.

Nope! I feel pretty good about the deal! I got it for 175 bucks and I saw the truck run for a while. I just want to be able to use the car and save my existing engine for a performance build.

Hate to say this, but even $175 was about $100 too much for an early 80's 302.

I guess I will have to use it. No way to return it and I still need to use the car as a daily driver. We'll see how this develops. As I said earlier, I just need to be able to use it until my engine is rebuilt. (Read until I have the money to rebuild it.)

To plug the dipstick tube hole in the block I just filled it with RTV.
